Erik Lehnsherr nursed himself a glass of whiskey, deep in thought as his hands absentmindedly rubbed its rim.
He knows what he pulled back there, in the piano room, was a mistake. It was foolish to think that he has the luxury to enjoy such things.
That he has the luxury to hold her hand, the luxury to enjoy her laugh, the luxury to savor her smile.
It was a distraction, a diversion to his real purpose.
To kill Schmidt.
" What are you going to do after you kill him ? What then is your purpose ?"
Her words crawled its way into his mind, and he hate to admit it, but she was right.
What is next for him? He was as useless as a weapon without a war. He had been raised to fight, but what is there to fight for ?
" You okay there man?"
His thoughts were interrupted with a raspy knock against the door, and he turned to see Carter leaning against the doorway.
" I'm fine," he secretly wished for him to leave. Erik doesn't really appreciate the company of others, after being alone for so many years, being with someone else feels odd.
Yet, some people have the tendency to crawl under his skin, and sometimes they can get close enough to him to the point where he actually cares.
It's something he still has a hard time admitting until now.
" May I come in? I haven't get to know you," Carter peaked in, and Erik couldn't afford to be rude at the moment.
" Please, take a seat."
Carter sat on the armchair across him,giving him a friendly smile.
" So, how are things going ?"
" We're in the brink of war with one of the most dangerous mutant in the world, but I would say that things are actually lighting up," he snarked, pouring himself a glass," Do you drink?"
Carter nodded," I do, but maybe not tonight. Lin Na would hit me in the head if she finds out."
At the mention of her name his curiosity piqued," Will she now ?"
" She always worries about me, she worries about everyone ! " He laughed," I don't know what I would do without her, she's great."
