Miss Nobody

The Project

 I walked into class with Romona.  We took out sets back row. The nerds came in behind us and sat in the front row. After the third row of sets, the popular kids filled in fourth row. Me and Romona and the other social outcast sat right behind them. Everyone was talking. My teacher was struggling to get everyone attention. Everyone respected him but sometimes they ran over him.
"That it!" Mr. Williams said to the glass. He erased the board and looked at the class. "Since you are so close with your group of friends. How about I spice it up. I beat know of you know a thing about the kids outside your group." I didn't like where he was going with this. "Stand up Ms. A'Gillies."
"Yes sir." I stood up and looked at him.
"How many of you know Hailey?" Only Romona raised her hand.
"No one knows Miss Nobody." Kevin said out loud. The class laughed. I hated when they called me that.
"Hailey do you know anyone outside of your friend Romona?" He asked me.
"Yes sir, I know everyone since I started school here in the third grade." I even knew Kevin Clines. He told me to sit back down.
"From now till the end of the school year. I will be working with a partner. Someone you wouldn't normally socialize with. There will be no switching partners. Now, when I call your name. Go sit with your partner." I listened to Mr. Williams as he called off the names. Romona was partnered with one of the nerds. That wasn't so bad for her. She was in most their classes and she always talked to them. Romona was cool that way, she talked to everyone. A social butterfly. The popular kids got picked off one by one.
" Kevin Clines your with Hailey A'Gillies." FUCK! Why of all people to put me with. I needed another partner.  Kevin got up and sat where Romona had been. He didn't look at me or talk to me.
"Okay class, you are to get to know your partner. You to get to know them in school and outside of school. At the end of the year I want a well put together project. Every day we will do exercise to get know each other." I couldn't believe I was stuck with him.
 After lunch I went to talk to Mr. Williams.
"Look Hailey, Kevin came to me earlier today asking for a new partner, now I will tell you the same thing I told him. If you don't work with him, I will fail  the both of you."  Mr. Williams said.
"Sir, he is jerk. He doesn't like me." I pointed out.
"Then get to know him and make him like him. Or I will fail you both from my class." I was stuck with him and there was nothing I could do.
