Alice mumbled angrily to herself while they walked to the last, hopefully real, castle.
The Mad Hatter just followed right behind her, only catching random things she mumbled, like:
"Stupid cat." and "I'll kill him." and "how far is this castle anyway?"
He just figured it'd be better to just walk silently and let her fume.
The walk was about ten minutes.
They finally arrived at the last castle. This one, the walls were gold and the door was blood red with small black crystal hearts on it.
They entered the castle, still no guards.
The inside was red with gold trimming, the furniture was velvet red with gold trimming, all the tables were black with hearts carved on them, the stairs also had hearts carved onto them, some had vases with paintings on The Red Queen on them, and the paintings above also had paintings of her on them.
"This is what The Cheshire meant." The Mad Hatter said quietly.
"What on earth are you talking about?" Alice said.
"The Red Queen is full of herself. Look," he pointed to the paintings and vases, "they have her on them."
"I still don't understand." Alice said.
"This has to be the real castle, The Red Queen is full of herself, so it makes sense for pictures and paintings of herself to be all over." he explained.
"Oh, I see." she said, then mumbled, "stupid cat."
They started walking.
"Where could the throne room be?" Alice mumbled to herself.
"Why don't we go the same way we did the other castles, and see if that works!" The Mad Hatter suggested.
"Meh, okay, why not." Alice agreed, and so they went.
They walked for a while in silence until they reached a dead end.
"Well, that failed." Alice stated. "What now?"
"I don't know." The Mad Hatter said. "Maybe we could try to find a map or a maid or something."
"I'm pretty sure that only the first castle would have a map, and it's like you said, they've all probably been zomi- I mean, jesterfied." she didn't say zombified as to not have a meeting with The Cheshire.
"Well what do you propose we do?" he asked.
"Wander around." she said. "Look, the doors have labels on them."
All the doors had a gold plates next to them telling you what room it.
"Like right now, we're at the kitchen." Alice said. "Let's get going."
They walked around, trying to find it. They went from floor to floor trying to find it.
They would stop by every door to read the plate.
"This is getting us nowhere." Alice sighed.
They were now on the third floor
"This was your idea." The Mad Hatter said.
"Yeah, yeah, I know." she said, slightly annoyed.
"We only have two more floors, one of these has to be it." he said.
Alice groaned.
"Lets take a break and have tea!" The Mad Hatter suggested happily.
Alice thought about it, finally she said: "Okay, fine."
...
An hour later, they made it to the fifth floor, the first door they found, was the throne room.
"Finally!" Alice said, "go in."
The Mad Hatter opened the door just enough for his small body to go through. He closed the door behind him, but Alice stuck her foot in it so she could see what happened
All Alice could see was a marble tiled floor with velvet walls, the throne was pure gold with velvet cushion.
"H-hello your Majesty." The Mad Hatter stuttered.
The Red Queen had a velvet crown with gold tearing, her hair was a dark red, as if she had dyed it. Her face was pale, and she had red eyeshadow with matching lipstick. Her body was plump, with a red dress with black hearts all over it, then was her tiny feet, how those tiny feet could support that fat body was a mystery to Alice.
The Red Queen leaned forward.
"Why aren't you green like the rest of Wonderland?" her voice boomed through the throne room.
"Um. P-perhaps it didn't effect me like the r-rest of Wonderland." he lied.
"Hmm." she leaned back again, trying to decide whether to trust him or not.
"Eight! Get in here and bring me those truffles!" she shouted.
Alice heard some pitter patter of feet behind her. She looked around to see if there was anything she could hide behind. She found a couch and jumped behind it.
The eight of clubs came running through, holding a tray of chocolate truffles with white chocolate drizzled on them.
Alice stomach rumbled. She remembered The Mad Hatter had sent her the letter before she could eat lunch.
The eight of clubs turned around, trying to spot where the noise came from, but The Red Queen yelled at him to come in, and he quickly forgot all about the noise.
"You're late." she snapped.
"My apologies your Majesty." he said, bending down on one knee and handing her the tray of truffles. "I hope they are made to your liking."
"You better hope they are." she snapped.
She picked one up, and shoved it in her mouth.
The eight of clubs looked worried.
"You messed up on the chocolate." she said. "Off with your head!"
Then, the two and three of clubs came running through, along with a hooded club, holding an axe.
The two and three of clubs grabbed the eight of clubs and dragged him off.
"Now, where were we?" The Red Queen asked. Then she saw The Mad Hatter, "Ah yes, speak your piece."
The Mad Hatter cleared his throat, Alice came back up to the door.
He turned around and saw Alice. A wash of relief came to his face.
"Well, your majesty, you see, all of Wonderland has been cursed by the potion you gave them. And, um, I was, uh, wondering if there was a cure of any kind?" he whispered the last part.
"Speak up, or it'll be off with your head!" The Queen boomed.
"F-forgive me, I a-asked if there was a cure." he said louder.
"A cure!" she boomed. "A cure you asked! Why, you don't like the way things are?"
"N-not really y-your Majesty." he stuttered.
"Then," she boomed, "it shall be off with your head!"
