My heart was pounding out of my chest. Mrs.Smith opened the door. She was as pretty as I imagined.
She had sparkling brown eyes like AJ. Judging by her appearance, I was guessing she was Filipino. Mrs.Smith looked like she was in her mid-thirties. Her hair was long and straight. She was tiny though, probably a few inches shorter than me. Maybe about 5"0. She wore cuffed, black pants, and a colorful off the shoulder shirt.
Mrs.Smith smiles at me and whispers, "You must be Marceline. AJ won't stop talking about you."
I laughed, and took off my shoes and put it with the others, since that's what most Asian households do. AJ rushed down the stairs, still trying to fix his tie. He looked confused.
"Here let me help," I tease.
He looks at me and turns red. We both laugh.
"There you go...," I say as I tighten it.AJ was wearing a black tie, black jeans, and a white button-up shirt with the sleeves folded. His hair was fixed up with gel as usual.
He gave me a little peck, since his mom was watching.
"Why is everyone dressed so nice? I just dressed like this for a good impression...," I whispered to AJ.
"My dad was working late, so my mom decided we should just go eat out," he replied.
"Oh, alright."
I put my booties back on. Mrs.Smith put on wedges, and AJ wore his Retro 5's. We all hopped in their white 2016 Honda Civic. Mrs.Smith drove, while I sat in the passenger seat, and AJ was in the back.
"So Mrs.Smith, how long have you guys been living in Riverside?" I asked as she drove.
"Ever since AJ was three...so about 14 years. Oh and you don't have to call me Mrs.Smith, it's Amelia. When did you move here, Marceline?"
"When I was 11, right in the middle of sixth grade. I moved here from New York."
"Why the move so suddenly?"
"Oh...uh...an accident happened back home. My mom and dad got divorced, and she got custody over me. We moved over here to California, and my dad stayed in New York."
"Oh. I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have asked."
"Nah...it's alright."
"So, you like the high school so far?"
"Yeah, it's pretty cool."
"Were you thinking about joining any clubs or teams? Maybe you could become a cheerleader? Or you can join band with Jay!"
"Hahaha... I'm not very good at being 'preppy', and I'm no good at playing instruments either."
"Well...can you sing?"
"A little. I was in choir at my old school."
"You should put on a little concert for us! Hahaha!"
"Haha, maybe."
"Well you already know AJ is on the basketball and football team. He's really good at baseball, but he doesn't want to join the team. Unfortunately."
"That's too bad. I'm not much of a baseball fan, though."
"Ah! Thought you'd be interested. You could've helped me convince him!"
"You're really funny, Mrs.Smith."
"Once again, call me Amelia. 'Mrs.Smith' makes me feel old."
"Haha, alright, 'Amelia'."
"AJ! I like this girl. Marcy's a keeper. Way better than that last girl. What was her name again? Alexis? Alex? Ellie? Oh! Elexandria! Well, Elexa for short...right?"
"Mom...," AJ said with an angry tone.
"Alright, alright. I won't mention her again," she replied.
Who the hell is Elexa? AJ never told me about her. But he told me all about his exes. But not this girl... Something weird is going on. I can sense it.Amelia finally pulled up into Olive Garden. We walked in, the smell of breadsticks made my mouth water.
"Table for four, please," she says.
"Four?" I whisper to AJ.
"My sister is going to meet up with us after her cheerleading practice," he explained.
Sister? Cheerleader? AJ has a sister? Wait...what?
About ten minutes pass by, and we are taken to our table. AJ's mom sits on one side of the table, while AJ and I sit together on the other side. The waiter takes our drink orders, and then AJ's sister comes rushing in and plops right next to her mom.
"Hi, guys! Sorry I'm waaaaay late," she chuckles.
Their mom elbows her in the arm and gestures toward me.
"Oh hey! You must be AJ's girlfriend. I'm Andra, but like just call me Dray. Man, AJ talks about you all the damn time," she says loudly.
She had the same straight black hair, and brown eyes as AJ. They both had button noses and chiseled jawlines.
They look exactly alike...are they twins?
"Well we're not really dating...well not officially. But anyways Dray, how old are you?" I asked.
"Sixteen," she takes a bite of her breadstick, "we're twins."
Knew it.
AJ grabs my hand. I look up at him, and he gives me a toothy grin.
"Cute," Dray said.
"I remember when I was dating Jake. But like he's a senior now. Still he was really cute, and I was soooo into him, and he was into me but then his girlfriend, Elexa, came back but then he dumped her cause he was cheating on her with me. She said 'you are being a little bitch and back stabbing me.' But then Jake fucked Elexa while we were dating and I found out. He dumped me cause he said I didn't fuck him enough. He started dating her again, but then she hooked up with this other guy, and then they started dating. But then she left for stupid modeling camp. But the guy she was dating got all sad. But I'm not sure if they ended it. The guy she was dating was And-"
Andrew cut her off, "SHUT UP!"
Dray looked at him puzzled, "you only acted this way around Elexa. Who, once again, literally took my boyfriend away from me. Guess Marcy will be a "mistake" too then. Bet you're going to be afraid to end things with Marcy...just like Elexa. But you better remember Elexa didn't end what you guys had so as soon as she gets back then you are dead, Andrew. You are dead."
Wow...she sure does talk a lot...but seriously who is Elexa...? I know that she's Andrew's ex for sure. Well...I think ex...I mean...I hope that's his ex.
AJ let go of my hand, and his mom's mouth was wide open. I think we were all pretty shocked about what happened.
Dray got out of her chair, "I'll just be on my way now."
"I should probably leave too...," I say as I got up.
"Wait, what? Please don't leave, Marcy...,"AJ says as he gets out of his chair.
I ignored him.
"Can you give me a lift home?" I whisper to Dray as we head out the door.
"No prob."2 weeks later...
I've been cutting every other day now. It's becoming a routine again. Winter is coming, so there was no point of trying to hide it since I'd be wearing thick coats all day...of course except P.E. It's already October. What to expect? I'm not sure I want to know.
It was a free period on a Monday. A cold breeze went through the air. AJ and I were sitting on a bench right outside the school.
I was wearing two jackets and a scarf, while AJ wore one leather jacket. This cold probably never bothers him. He's so hot he warms himself up...did I seriously just think that? I'm so fucking dumb...but I gotta admit that's an amazing pun.
He gave a kiss on the forehead, which made me feel all the better. His phone vibrated. Snapchat has to ruin every cute moment, doesn't it? It was some sort of video...which of course he didn't let me hear, or see. AJ looked shocked. Suddenly, what seemed about hundreds students ran out of the high school towards the road. A limousine pulled up. AJ stood up. He never looked that worried since he found out about my cuts...or what happened at the dinner with his family. Something's not right.__________
