AJ's P.O.V.

"Crap," Rev muttered, "it's all my fault. I should've protected her. Why am I such a terrible mom?"
I stood up and comforted her, "Hey it'll be okay. Marcy can protect herself. She's strong."
"That doesn't matter! He killed my son! Marshall is probably drunk right now. He's gonna get in a crash with my little girl. Just like Marcus...she's gonna di-"

She started tearing up. Next thing I knew, she was sobbing on my shoulder, crying to God for help.

"Please, Lord. Save my daughter...," she whispered.
"Rev it's going to be alri-"
"NO IT IS NOT! That's it! I'm calling the police. Did you see what car he was in?"

Marceline's P.O.V.

"So what other secrets are there? Is Mom actually not my mom? Do I have a secret twin?" I chuckled as he drove.
"Very funny, Mari," Dad said, rolling his eyes.

I guess you could say it was nice having Dad around again. For once, I felt like I didn't have to live up to these expectations to be a perfect daughter. Mom always wants me to be pretty, smart, and happy. I mean, that's what all parents expect from their daughters, right? But Dad just wants to protect me. So I just feel comfortable with him.

"Where are we going?" I asked.
"Fred's Diner."
"Like the one in New York?!? They have one here?"

I smiled with joy. When I was younger, our whole family used to go to Fred's Diner back in New York. We were so happy back then...

"Well it's in Rancho County. I think they opened it a month ago."
"Rancho..."
"Yeah...is everything okay?"
"The Rancho High students. A certain group of them...they uh..."
"Did they hurt you?"
"No...well almost."
"Is this about your friend?"
"Yeah..."
"I'm sorry...I bet she was a great girl."
"She was."

The memories of Jay started to come back. I couldn't stop thinking about her. My best friend died. She's gone. And it's all my fault.

"Did you love her?"
"What?"
"Was she your...y'know...?"
"No. But we uh..."
"Holy shit! My daughter messed around with a girl!"
"What? Are you against gay people?"
"No. It's just your mom never told me. She wrote to me saying you moved schools and that um your friend...passed. But she didn't tell me you were bisexual."
"Wait. That's all she told you?"
"Yes. Am I missing something?"
"She didn't tell you about my depression? Or my uh...suicide attempt?"
"What...?"

10 minutes later. At Fred's Diner.

We pulled up into the parking lot.
"Thanks," Dad sighed.
"For what?" I asked.
"For opening up to me. It's been kind of lonely ever since you guys left."
"Yeah... So did you invite Mom to come eat with us? I don't want her to get too worried. You know how protective she can be."
"Uh...no. But you want to know someone I did invite?"
"Who?"
"Marcus."
