We hadn't been walking that far when Carl soloed out. Leaving me alone, helping Rick walk. Not only having to deal with my own weight but now the weight of a full grown man too. I don't know how much longer I could handle this. My asthma wasn't agreeing with this situation either.
Asthma wasn't my top priority to keep up with when it came to my health. I didn't, thank God, have it bad though. Just mild.
But anyway, Carl split. Just like that. As if I could handle all this by myself. I mean hello. I'm the one that has a metal foot. Shouldn't my needs be tended to too. Carl was a perfectly healthy boy, basically. A few cuts and scrapes means no harm.
But he decides to just go on ahead and forget about us. "I need a break." I told Rick as I gasped for air.
"We all do. Carl slow down!" he called to his son but he didn't comply. "Carl!" he tried to yell but it came out faint and rough. "STOP!" he gave it his all, just for the boy to stop. He didn't turn or face us though.
I sighed when Rick removed his arm from around my shoulder; making his way over to Carl. Oh, the relief. Instantly, I was leaning over with my arm across my stomach, trying to catch my breath. My heart beat slowly returning to normal.
I glanced up at the two, finding Carl sending his father a deadly glare. It scared me to see him with a look on his face like that. His whole personality had changed. His body language was no longer caring, but hateful and angry.
Distance was the best thing for us now. We weren't even together anymore but that didn't change the fact that I still loved him.
"We need to stay together. Find food, a place to rest." Rick laid a hand on his son's shoulder but he shrugged it off. He looked at me, his expression not changing. Giving me a gut wrenching feel like he hated me. He whipped back around and started back walking.
I mumbled a 'Jerk' under my breath as I took my place next to Rick again. The weight returning and my leg straining to keep up with the boy leading us.
*****
We were standing at the door of a biker stop. Guns raised ready to go inside.
"You two stay out and keep watch. I'll go in and clear it." Rick instructed us. But before he could open the door, Carl stopped him, "No, you stay and keep watch, I'll go in." he argued.
"No Carl." Rick fought back. "What? You think you can do it alone? You can barely walk alone. You should just let me do it myself." he muttered the last part.
I walked closer to the door, being fed up with their arguing. "How about I do it alone?" I asked and they both looked at me. "Can we just go in?" I looked back at them till Rick finally opened the door.
I followed Carl in, waiting for some walker to jump out. Rick cleared a room and I went to the back. Standing in front of a wall that built a barricade to the other side. Rick and Carl walking next to me examining the wall.
The moans and noises coming from behind the barricade let us know why it was there. Out of the shadows, the huge walker stepped into view and I was a little taken back by his size. He was a giant compared to all previous walkers I had killed.
I peered over to a piece of a paper Carl held in his hand that read: Please do what I couldn't - Joe Jr.
Seemingly someone must have been family with this walker to have not killed it. Carl aimed his gun to its head but Rick stopped him. "No, its weak. I'll draw it out." he said grabbing a hatchet from the floor and pulling a chair from the pile to set the walker free.
The walker immediately charging for Rick and Rick struck him in the head. I waited for the walker to fall dead but he stayed up. Trying its best to get Rick. They fought and Rick looked to Carl and I. "Run! Go!" He yelled but before I could protest Carl raised his gun and fired. Not missing his target.
Rick jerked the hatchet from the walkers head and sent Carl an angered stare. "We could have needed that bullet later. You shouldn't have fired."
"Well you obviously couldn't deal with the walker yourself." Carl sent him a glare as he grabbed a bag from the floor and went retrieving items from shelves. I scoffed at his stubbornness and went to search the kitchen.
A/n: So I've decided to make the story longer. or in better words: more detailed. I hope you enjoyed this chapter and I really do appreciate comments! Please Vote too! Fan also!!
