Kaitlyn's POV
"Damon!" I scream behind his retreating figure. "Don't you dare walk away from me!"
Damon stalls when he runs into someone. I take this as my chance to catch up to the two. I grip onto Damon's arm when I see who it is. My not dead uncle.
"You've got to be kidding me!" Damon exclaims.
"Nice to see you too, Damon Salvatore," John says politely. He looks at me disapprovingly. "If you don't mind, I have Founders' duties to uphold."
John walks onto the Lockwood porch where he shakes hands with Tyler's dad. Mr. Lockwood gives a speech and then Uncle John rings an old bell.
Damon watches my uncle's every move. He pauses for a moment turning to me. "Do you recognize that ring?"
"It looks like Alaric's," I answer, the similarity hitting me.
Damon grins. "I would call that a coincidence if he didn't just come back to life five minutes ago."
"Yeah, me too," I agree, my eyes have yet to leave the ring.
"And where did Alaric get his magical ring?"
"Isobel," I reply, the pieces snapping together for me as well.
"Who gave birth to you and Elena under the medical care of Dr. Grayson Gilbert, John's brother."
"Do you think John knew my mother?" I ask quietly.
Damon looks at me. "I think John knows a lot of things."
"What do we do now?"
Damons smirks and loops his arm through mine. "We go find our favorite history teacher and interrogate your least favorite uncle."
"He's my only uncle." I laugh at Damon as he leads me through the crowd.
"Only proves me point, my dear Kate."
"Uh, huh," I mutter, letting his silly antics slide.
Stefan's POV
I fell off the wagon hard. Last night at the Kick-off party, I couln't resist Kelly Donovan's blood and it only got worse from there. I almost mauled that guy in the parking lot. The urge to tear him limb from limb and devour his blood ebbed my brain, but I didn't. I didn't kill him, but I wanted to. I wanted to so badly and then I snapped. Damon's glass was just sitting their taunting me. It won.
"Nice car," Elena calls, smiling at me. She has no idea I've fallen off the edge. She thinks we're going to be okay. She's so sure she can repair our relationship and go back to the way we were. I can't imagine going back to the old us. I don't want the old us back.
I laugh fakely and she seems to buy it. That's the difference between Elena and her sister. Elena's oblivious and a 24-7 optimist. Kaitlyn sees things as they are; bad or good.
"Realized it was a waste keeping it packed away in the garage," I lie. It so easy to lie to her.
Elena smiles and the sun dances on her brown hair like glitter. She skips over to me and kisses me on the lips. Her eyes flutter closed while mine stay frozen open in shock.
We haven't kissed since we semi got back together. I say semi because we never made it official. We just kind of fell back together after I was dying in the woods and she saved me. Life or death situations push people together.
She pulls away and I smile back at her. I don't let on how uncomfortable I am.
"Does this mean the cravings are gone?" she asks hopefully.
