Something Real (A Shawn Mendes Fanfiction)

Part Three: Making Music

I woke up to someone poking me in the face. I opened my eyes and see Makayla all in my space and she's smiling really big.

"Wakey wakey eggs and bacy!" She said all innocently. I pushed face away from me and  close my eyes again. 

"If there isn't any actual eggs and bacon then I'm going back to sleep." I said while turning my back towards her. 

"No there isn't, but I can make a big delicious bowl of Lucky Charms!" She said  and poked the back of my head. I rolled over and looked at her. She smiled at me and was waiting for a response. 

"Fine" I said and rolled my eyes. I sat up and Brian was on his phone at the other end of the "L" shaped couch. 

"Whatcha doing?" I said as I crawled over and looked at his phone. 

"Why are you so nosey?" He laughed. I put my hand on my heart and gasped. I pretended like I was offended and he just rolled his eyes at me and laughed. 

"Where did Justin and Blake go?" I asked while hoping off the couch. He didn't answer me. But Makayla did.

"They left this morning before you woke up." She said while she handed me my cereal. 

"Oh okay. Who is he talking to?" I asked her and I pointed to Brian. 

" I don't know but he's been on his phone for a while."

Me and Makayla went upstairs to brush our teeth after I finished eating.  We keep a tooth brush there because we are always at Brian's house. 

"Where are Brian's parents? I didn't even notice last night that they weren't here." I asked as we were coming down the stairs.

"I think they went out of town." She said.

We walked back into the living room and Brian was still on his dang phone. I walked up behind him a snatched his phone to see who he was so caught up with. 

"Shawn? Whose Shawn?" I said really confused. 

"Hey give that back. Shawn Mendes smart one that's who!" He said in a "duh" tone. 

"OOOOOHHHH your boyfriend Shawn!" I said jokingly. Makayla laughed and started making kissy noises at him.

"Haha very funny, but no. He was telling me about his tour." 

"Oh that sounds fun! I wonder what it's like touring with him!" Makayla said. She's kind of a fan of Shawn. 

"It probably smells like feet on that tour bus." I said and then I checked my Instagram and saw a picture of my sister and some friends. I haven't seen her in a while and she hasn't called or texted for a week. It kinda makes me mad, but I get over it. 

"I need to make some money!" I randomly say.

" Well then try getting a job." Makayla said and she shoves me so I shove her back. 

" I don't wanna work though, I'm too lazy for that." 

"Well what's something fun that you can make money off of?" 

I think for a moment and look over to Brian who is still talking to Shawn. Then I get an idea. 

"I could go somewhere and play my guitar and sing. I'll put out my guitar case for people to throw money in." I say excitedly.

"That's a great idea!! Oh this is gonna be fun." She shrieks.

"What are we doing?" Brain asked when he finally got off his phone. We explained everything to him and he agreed that I should do it. 

The next day I met Makayla at the Starbucks. We went in and asked for the manager. 

"Hi how can I help you?" Asked the manager.

"We were wondering of I could possibly play my guitar and sing here for a bit. I'm just trying to make some money." I said politely.

"She's really good!" Makayla chimed in.

"Oh okay! That's fine. You can set up over there and I'll let everyone know what's going on." She said.

I went to where she said and set up my stuff. Then she announced that I will be playing and that I will be accepting any money anyone wants to drop in my case. Makayla sat at a table near me and was recording. 

I began to sing "A Team" by Ed Sheeran. A few people came and put some money in when I got to the second verse. I finished and everyone clapped. I sang a few more songs and more people came to put money in. I got many compliments on my voice and made a ton of cash. 

Just as I was about to leave a tall nicely dressed man approached me. Makayla saw him as she was helping me get my stuff.

"Excuse me ma'am. My name is Jimmy Roberts, I work in the music industry." He said. I was shocked that he was even talking to me and finally I said something.

"Hi. I'm Lexi Smith. What can I do for you?" 

"Well your very talented, I was wondering if you have heard of Island Records."

"Well yeah, kind of." I said nervously.

" Would you be interested in flying to New York to play for the record producer there. We are looking for a new artist and I think you might be perfect. You would play for them, they would ask you some questions and if they like you then they'll sign you."

I stood there shocked. My jaw dropped when he said that if they like me then they would sign me. Luckily Makayla pushed my jaw shut. 

"Say something" Makayla mumbled.

"I'd have to talk with my mom about it, but I definitely want to though!" I answered eagerly. He gave his contact info and I gave him mine. Wow! What just happened?

I drove Makayla home and then went to go talk to my mom. I explained everything that happen and we had a long discussion about it. She said she wouldn't  be able to go with me to New York because of work. Finally I convinced her to let me go. She said as long as I bring someone with me that I could go. I already knew who I was taking. 

I got out my phone and texted her.

Lexi💁🏽: Hey! I'm going!!

Makayla👸🏼:OMG YAY!!!! When do you leave?

Lexi💁🏽: Well. WE leave in two days. So make sure it's okay with your parents. If not I'll have to take Brian.🙄

Makayla👸🏼: AHHHHH!!! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!😭😭 ILL GO ASK RIGHT NOW.

Lexi💁🏽: Okay😂😂

Her parents agreed to let her go and she came over and helped me pack. The next I day I did the same with her. Tomorrow we leave for New York! I can't believe this! I'm going to the big apple!  Brian was really happy for me and said that I might get to meet Shawn because that's where he is  signed to. I highly doubt that but who cares! I'm going to freakin New York baby!!
