Duration: 72 Minutes

Location: Frederick County Sheriff's Office

No. of Pages: 40

Conducted by Officers Brown and Waters

Officer Brown: This interview is being tape recorded. I am Officer Daniel Brown and I am based out of Frederick County, with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. Please state your full name.

Jade Carter: Jade Alessia Carter

Officer Brown: And could you confirm your date of birth for me?

Jade Carter: February 20, 1989.

Officer Brown: Okay, the date is Tuesday, October 4, 2017 and the time by my watch is 2:23 pm. The interview is being conducted in the interview room of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. This is an out of custody interview, Ms. Carter, you are not under arrest and you are free to leave at any time. However, even though you are not under arrest, you are still welcome and entitled to seek any legal advice, do you understand?

Jade Carter: Yes.

Officer Brown: And did you want to have an attorney present?

Jade Carter: No.

Officer Brown: Okay, as stated, if you would like to stop at any time, we will stop.

Jade Carter: Okay.

Officer Brown: Ms. Carter, do you know why you're here?

Jade Carter: No, I have no idea why, in the middle of a very important deposition, it was so important that I be pulled down here to talk to you. Is this about the Behrman case? Because I told that judge, if she wanted to file a contempt of court charge on me she had better be ready for a fight because-

Officer Brown: It's not about the Behrman case.

Jade Carter: Oh. Well. Is it the Ryan case then? Are you going to tell me you mysteriously "can't find" the blood samples again and push the court date back another three weeks? Because my client doesn't have all year to argue this case you know-

Officer Brown: Ms. Carter, this isn't about one of your cases.

Jade Carter: It's not? Well then what is this about? I don't understand.

Officer Brown: We'll get to that, but first, we just have a few questions we were wondering if you could answer.

Jade Carter: What kind of questions?

Officer Brown: Could you tell us about what you did this morning?

Jade Carter: This morning? Well, I came to work, and I ran into Larry, Larry Stalvis-

Officer Brown: Actually, and sorry to interrupt, but could you start with this morning when you woke up, before you even came to work?

Jade Carter: When I woke up? Why?

Officer Brown: We're just trying to get the full picture of your day.

Jade Carter: What is this about?

Officer Brown: Look Ms. Carter, we will get to that, but we would really appreciate it if you would just answer our questions before we answer yours. You are not under arrest or under investigation for anything. We just need your help with this.

Jade Carter: Well...okay. This morning I, well I woke up in bed. And let's see, I went into the bathroom I suppose, like I do every morning. I brushed my teeth, and put my contacts in. And then...well then I walked back in the bedroom and I shook Connor, to try to wake him up because I knew he had that meeting this morning early, and then-

Officer Brown: You said your husband had an early meeting, was it unusual for him to be up at the same time as you?

Jade Carter: Well, kind of, I usually get up around 6 so I can get into the office by 7:30, he usually wakes up around 7, right before I leave. I usually check to make sure he's up then, but he had that meeting and he had to be in an hour early, so I got him up earlier.

Officer Brown: Okay, thank you, please continue.

Jade Carter: So...where was I? Oh so I shook him awake and then I put my slippers on and went downstairs to let the dog out, I like to let her out and feed her before I put my work clothes on. Then I came back upstairs, and Connor was still asleep so I shook him until I got him to stand up, and then I went into the walk in closet to get dressed. When I came out Connor was in the bathroom and so I made the bed, and then got my work bag together. Then I went downstairs and made us both breakfast, like I do every morning, I made a fruit salad with an egg white omelet for us both, we've been trying to eat healthy before the holiday season really kicks into gear. Connor came down right as I was finishing cooking and we ate, and then he said he had to be off so he went to the car while I did the dishes. Then I set the house alarm and went and drove to work. When I got to work I-I'm sorry I just don't understand how any of this is relevant. Has something happened?

Officer Brown: We have some cause for concern about someone in your life, there is no reason to believe that they are in harms way, but we would like to get the answers to these questions before we fill you in because we would prefer unemotional responses.

Jade Carter: Oh my god. Is it Connor? Is he hurt? Is he okay?

Officer Brown: We have no reason to believe Connor is in any danger at all. Please, if we could just continue with the interview.

Jade Carter: Is it my mother? My sister? Has something happened to my father?

Officer Brown: It is not a family member, and it is not someone we believe is a close friend of yours.

Jade Carter: Then why do you think I can help?

Officer Brown: We never know where our leads will come from. Sometimes a small, seemingly unimportant detail can break a case. That's all we're hoping for.

Jade Carter: Oh...okay. Well I guess, anything I can do to help whoever it is.

Officer Brown: Thank you. So if you could just continue with your morning.
