ANNA HARRIS FOUND IN PENNSYLVANIA FOREST

By: Nancy Yates

January 22, 2017                     5:53pm

Hillsborough, Pennsylvania - In a sudden turn of events on Sunday, the search for Anna Harris ended dramatically, when she turned up at a local residence in Hillsborough, Pennsylvania in the middle of the night.

Police have been searching for Anna, 14, since October when she went missing outside of her Frederick home. Anna's family, in conjunction with local businesses, even offered a twenty thousand dollar reward for information leading to her safe return. Her alleged captor, Connor Carter, a local Frederick resident, was apprehended by police on Saturday in nearby Pennsylvania.

Carter has yet to be charged with the crime, and the police have stated that they are continuing their investigation and that Carter is a suspect in the case. They have not yet said whether they believe Carter had an accomplice.

It has been widely reported that Anna Harris and Connor Carter maintained an illicit relationship, spurred by their introduction at Anna's high school robotics club, which Carter ran.

"Anna was in love with Mr. Carter." Harris's friend, Melody, told the associated press back in October, "She wanted to run away with him and start a family. She told everyone all about it."

After being spotted on surveillance cameras near Deep Creek, Maryland, soon after disappearing,  Carter and Harris stayed out of public sight for the next two months. Carter was eventually caught on Saturday buying prescription drugs at a small town Pennsylvania grocery store.

After police interrogations, Carter revealed the location of the small hunting cabin he kept Anna in for the past 3 months.

Upon entering the hunting cabin, police found bloody chains, but no Anna Harris.

"It was like something out of a horror movie, or one of those crime thrillers." a source, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case, told the associated press. "Blood everywhere, and all sort of guns, weapons, torture devices. We thought, 'There's no way this girl is alive.'"

Nevertheless, police brought in dogs to search out Anna's scent, even including cadaver dogs in their efforts, but to no avail. The recent snowfall made the trail difficult to track, and when they did find it, it ended at a stream on the property.

It wasn't until a local resident reported his bike stolen from a location near the stream that the police realized Anna may have had an escape route after all.

"When I reported my son's bike stolen, well I knew it had to be her right away." local resident George Martin told us, "I mean it was right there by where they found them. That pedophile I mean, Chris Carter or whatever. Anyway, it was obvious she'd come and taken the bike, trying to escape him. I just can't believe it took the police that long to find her after they knew about the bike."

Police, in fact, did not find Anna at all. Instead it was an elderly grandmother of 5, Mrs. Christina Lawson, who opened the door at 2:30am to find young Anna standing in front of her.

"She was so little, standing out there in the cold. She was shaking from it, the poor thing, and all bloody and bruised. She looked exhausted. Well I just bustled her right into my kitchen, didn't I, and made her a home cooked meal. I told her 'we aren't calling the police until you warm up.' I know how those boys operate. Wanting to ask questions and all that. The girl needed time to recover."

When Mrs. Lawson did call the police, Anna was immediately transported to Hillsborough Hospital, where she was treated for multiple non-life threatening injuries.

Anna's parents had driven to Hillsborough earlier in the day to participate in the search for their daughter, and were finally reunited with Anna at the hospital. Anna also has a 17 year old brother, Christopher, who journeyed with his parents to look for his sister.

Anna's condition is as of yet unknown, although the hospital did state that she is expected to make a full recovery. Anna's family released the following statement:

"We are delighted and eternally thankful to be reunited with our treasured daughter Anna. Anna, and our entire family, have been through a lot during the past few months, and we ask for privacy while we begin the healing process which will undoubtedly span years. We understand that there are many questions regarding Anna's ordeal over the past few months. We ask for patience as the police build their case against the wicked perpetrator of this crime. In time, we are sure all questions will be answered."

The Frederick Sheriff's Office made the following statement:

"We are happy to report that Anna Harris has been located and safely transported to a hospital for treatment. It is expected she will make a full recovery. The suspected perpetrator of this heinous crime is in custody, and at this time we do not believe any accomplices are sought. To preserve the integrity of our case, we will not answer further questions at this time, and ask that you respect the family's privacy."

The associated press reached out to the Hillsborough police for comment on this story, but they declined to make a statement.

A gofundme page was set up by the extended family of the victim to raise costs for her medical bills, both physical and mental. Excess funds will be placed in a college fund for her benefit.
