Newscast Transcript, broadcast at 3:35pm EST on October 4th, 2016. Station 6 News, 3pm "Today's Events: What You Need To Know" segment.
(camera opens on female news anchor, blonde, in a blazer and grey shirt, sitting at a table. Behind her, downtown Frederick appears through a window, people can be seen walking through the streets as cars make their way down the roads)
Female Anchor: And this just in, a young Frederick girl, kidnapped! Felix has your story, reporting live from the Frederick Sheriff's Department.
(screen shifts to a tall, dark haired man in a "Station 6" windbreaker standing outside a nondescript building)
Felix: Well Laura, we are here at the Frederick Sheriff's Department waiting on the police to conduct a formal press conference, but in the meantime, here's what we know so far:
(screen shifts to show a recent photo of Anna. She is a small girl, with long brown hair and green eyes. In the photo, she wears a gray sweater and no makeup, her hair is parted on the side and falls over her shoulders.)
Felix: Anna Harris never showed up to school this morning at local Frederick High School. When the school called her parents to confirm Anna's absence, they became alarmed, as Anna has never been absent from school without permission before. When they were unable to ascertain her whereabouts, Mr. and Mrs. Harris called the police. Anna's parents are inside now-
(camera cuts to the courthouse, zooming in on the door)
Felix: -being interviewed by police.
Laura: Wow, how unsettling. And do the police think this is a kidnapping case?
Felix: Yes, the police have told us that they are of the opinion this is a kidnapping case, a case of someone taking Anna, they do not believe that she has run away.
Laura: Wow, to think this could happen right here in Frederick. And do they know any other details at this time?
Felix: All the police have been able to tell us so far is that they believe Anna was kidnapped, and that she could be in imminent danger. If anyone sees Anna, they are urged to call the police immediately. The police are also asking that if Anna is spotted, residents do not approach Anna, as her kidnapper could very well be armed and dangerous.
(screen shows a picture of Anna again, alongside the captain "Kidnapped! If seen dial 911!")
Felix: The police are expected to provide more details on this case at a press conference happening at 5pm. At that time, we hope to know more about any potential suspects, vehicles they may be traveling in, where Anna might be headed, and why she was taken. Of course it is an ongoing investigation, and we don't know how much police know at this stage, but we hope to learn more at 5.
Laura: Thank you Felix, and now we go to Alison, who was able to speak with one of Anna's best friend's at the school, Carly.
(camera focuses on a thin blond woman with an angular face)
Alison: Thanks Laura, I'm here with Carly, who says she and Anna were very close. Can you tell me a little about Anna Carly?
(camera moves to a young looking girl in a Frederick High cheerleading uniform, her blond hair in a ponytail with a ribbon around it. Behind her, people mill around and school buses can be seen lined up in front of the school, it appears that school has just let out)
Carly: Yes, Anna is a very nice girl, very quiet, but everyone at school loves Anna.
Alison: And has Anna ever run away before or done anything to indicate that she might?
Carly: No, Anna is always at school, sometimes she comes even when she's sick. She's really into getting good grades. Anna would never run away, she has no reason to, she has everything she wants here.
Alison: Do you have any idea who might have taken Anna, does she have any enemies or has she mentioned anything off lately?
Carly: No, she hasn't mentioned anything, I think it must have just been some random stranger, it's scary to think that they were right here and they could have picked any of us. My friend Renee said Anna was on the bus this morning so they must have taken her right in front of the school before she went inside!
(camera pans to school buses, some can now be seen pulling away from the school)
Alison: That is a very scary thought indeed. Well there you have it Laura, Anna's friends say she would never run away, and yet no one that I've spoken to saw anything suspicious here this morning before school. This is a mystery that the police will hopefully shed some light on later this evening.
(camera zooms out on Alison and Carly, switching back to the station and focusing on Laura)
Laura: Thanks Alison, that is very scary, we will all be crossing our fingers here at station 6, hoping for Anna's safe and expedient return! Now on to our next story: is Harpers Ferry ready for summer hikers? Harrison has your update after this break.
(screen cuts to the station 6 logo and zooms out, switching to commercials)
