Gerard breathed in, anxious to start his first day at his new school. He had just moved in from the state of California to halfway across the country, otherwise known as West Virginia.
He had met two people so far. Someone named Frank and another person whom he couldn't recall the name of.
Gerard sighed, finally exhaling the breath. He opened the blue doors of the school and instantly noticed that the school was literally a maze, no, a labyrinth. Nevertheless, he took his first step inside the gigantic school.
---
Opening his locker, Frank frantically grabbed his two binders, one for math, his first period, and one for basic needs, like pencils, pens, and notebook paper.
Like any other student who didn't care about his grades or studying in general, Frank had to go to math earlier than normal for tutoring. He sidestepped right, shut his locker, and shoved the combination lock inside itself, securing his belongings in the small metal box.
---
Gerard decided he would go to the office. This was his first time moving to a new school, so he didn't know exactly what he had to do. Nobody told him, so it was common sense that his schedule would most likely be in the office.
The only problem was that he had no idea where the office was located, and even if he had a general idea, he would never be able to find it without a GPS.
And just then, he spotted a mess of black hair that he identified to be his new acquaintance, Frank. Gerard called him over, wanting to ask where the office was and if he could possibly lead him to it.
---
Frank stopped in the crowd of students and turned around. He had heard the distinct sound of his name being called. He gained that "superpower" by sitting in classroom after classroom, where every teacher felt they had to yell out every name on a list. It was that Gerard kid who just moved in. His red hair stuck out, and Frank wondered if he would have to get it redyed back to its original color. This school didn't allow unnatural hair colors, especially not bright red.
Going against his instinct to ignore Gerard, though, Frank hurried over, eager to hear what Gerard had to say.
---
Gerard rejoiced in his head, for Frank listened to him and was now jogging over to where Gerard stood. Frank stopped right in front of him, panting, and said, "You're attending this school? I thought you'd go anywhere but here."
Gerard frowned. He just wanted to fit in, but even his new friend seemed to not want him here.
"I need to know where the office is," Gerard managed to get out, his tongue surprisingly not tangling itself midsentence.
Frank nodded and started droning on about directions. "... take a left, then a right, then straight until you find the cafeteria. From there, you should see the office. It has a big sign in front of it that says 'office'."
"Can you just show me? I can't remember all of those directions," Gerard pleaded, eager to spend more time with this new friend.
Frank groaned but he led the way. Gerard could've jumped for joy right then and there, figuratively, of course.
---
After many twists and turns, the two teenagers reached the office, which had a big sign in front of it that said "office" in big black letters. Frank's legs hurt; he ran from his house to the school to get here in time for his tutoring.
