Chapter 10

Cowboy and Kid Blink were hanging out by the Horace Greeley statue. They still had no clue where Kit could be and were beyond worried for her safety. They've checked all over Manhattan and have spread the word around about her, but all of their actions were futile. It was as if she disappeared out of thin air.

Jack started to worry that she found another portal and went back to her time. He was upset that he wasn't able to say goodbye to his friend. Even though they just met, Jack felt an obligation to her, he owed at least that much to Lucy. Of course he didn't tell anyone else his theory about her time travel back to her time. Cowboy was pulled out of his thoughts when Kid Blink motioned towards a newsie approaching them.

"Hey, Know-It, hows it goin'?" Cowboy said leaning on the statue.

"Good. I 'ave a message from Brooklyn." Know-It said, saluting Cowboy who smirked in return.

"Ya 'ave a message? Why didn't Messengah come den?" Jack asked curiously.

"He's takin' care o' his lil' broddah." Know-It said, and Jack nodded in response.

"Who's Messengah?" Kid Blink asked.

"He's da Brooklyn newsie dat usually goes 'round telling Spot's messages." Jack said. Blink looked at him with confusion, but shrugged it off

"The message I 'ave is from Decks." Know-It said. There was a moment of silence while they waited for him to continue.

"Well, get on with it." Jack said.

"Oh, ya mean now? Okay. Decks said um, he said uhh…," Cowboy rolled his eyes, fumbling with his cowboy hat with impatience. "Right!" Know-It declared, "He said that Kit is safe in Brooklyn."

"What?!" Cowboy and Blink said in unison.

"No way!" Kit exclaimed, clutching her sides.

"Yeah, dat actually happened!" Girry said and Kit erupted in laughter. He was telling her the story of how Ping Pong got his name. Girry joined her in laughing.

"No, stop, it hurts too much to laugh." Kit said, wiping a tear from her eye. After an hour or two of standing, Girry finally give in and sat in the spot that Kit offered on her bed, and that was how they were situated at the moment.

At first, it was awkward. She didn't know what to talk about with Girry and felt so disconnected. She couldn't talk about anything of current events since she was too current. She racked her brain for any relevant history knowledge and cursed herself for sleeping in APUSH (advanced placement united states history class). She was also scared to death about saying something that would give the impression of her being from the future, which made her very nervous about talking. Fortunately, after a few dry conversations about the weather, Girry and Kit found more interesting topics of discussion.

"Ya know Messengah really likes ya." Girry said, out of the blue. Kit was taken aback by what he said.

"What?"

"Messengah gots da sweets for ya." Girry said blatantly. Kit was stunned silent.

Messenger was nice and all, but she thought about Kid Blink, and how he made her feel.

"I- I don't know what to say." Kit said, glancing down at her hands, her eyebrows furrowed in thought.

"You don't have ta say anythin'." Girry said. There was a moment of silence
