Chapter 15

Kit couldn't sleep. Her eyes remained open, staring blankly at the dark ceiling above her top bunk and her reclined body tense and frustrated. She couldn't stop thinking about her family and friends. Watching the Jacob's family and Jack having such a good time during the dinner a few hours ago stirred up so many feelings that she was trying to hold in.  She missed her own family and friends and felt guilty for just leaving, even though it was out of her control.

Tears began to form under her eyes, making a path down to her eyes because she was lying flat on her back. Kit cried for the fear of never seeing her friends and family. She cried in frustration for feeling so helpless in this time period. She cried for the fear of being found out that she was from the future and sent away to an asylum or, even worst, being believed and sent to scientists to be experimented on. She cried for overwhelming sense of feeling like she didn't belong. She cried for the sake of crying. She silently cried  until she had nothing left.

Kit hated not being able to control things, it made her feel weak and helpless. This is one of the reasons why she loved acting. At least there, she could pretend to be in control of the character's life. Acting even helped her deal with panic attacks, which is why she hasn't had one in while before the night she encountered the Delancey's. Once she was in character, she was unstoppable. Despite her hatred towards not having control of a situation, she loved doing improv.(improvisation)

She decided to imagine that she was just acting as a character in the year 1900 doing a major exercises of improv. She looked at it to be a challenge to test her acting capabilities. At least in that case, she could govern what Kit, the newsie from 1900, would say and do. Similar to how she prepared for each character she has portrayed, Kit began to sketch out the life of Kit, the newsie.

Character: Kitty aka Kit

Setting: Manhattan, New York in the year 1900

Description: A new newsie that moved from Queens to Manhattan. Currently residing in the Manhattan Newsies Lodging House.

Objective: making a living out of being a newsie and become part of the newsie family.

Personality and traits:

Kit paused, pondering over the traits she wanted to give herself. She looked up at the dark ceiling, . She decided to keep it simple and incorporated some traits about herself, looking at both the bad and good, seeing as to how she has been mostly acting like herself the past two weeks she has been with the newsies. It would be suspicious if she changed her personality too drastically. She also decided to add a few characteristics that she wished she had.

Personality and Traits: quick at picking up skills as seen in how quickly she picked up selling newspapers, control freak, feels out of place amongst the other newsies, keeps secrets, witty, not afraid to stand up for what she believes in, strong, generous, competitive to the extent of sometimes being a pain in the ass,  sarcastic, crazy, impulsive.

Fatal Flaw:

Kit knows that every character has their fatal flaw, a hamartia, the one thing that seems to always mess things up for them whether they know it or not. She still had to discover what Charlotte's, herself, was. Kit  inhaled a deep breath.
