Chapter 3
Cowboy led her to Tibby's, which he had already pointed out before. They entered the small restaurant, and filled with boys of all ages eating and laughing, generally making a loud commotion. Some of them turned to look at who just entered. A boy with jet black hair and a newsies cap yelled from the table with a hint of an Italian accent.
"Heya Jack! Who's da goyl? Ya moved on from Sarah already?" the dark haired boy turned to the kid next to him, "hey Boots I told ya he wouldn't last a year wit Sarah. Gimme da money." A short dark skinned boy reluctantly reached into his pocket to presumably get the money.
"Ya bums made a bet wit how long I'd stay with Sarah? By da way it's been ovah a year." Cowboy said triumphantly while he knocked the newsies cap off of the Italian kid. He led Charlotte to an empty table near the dark haired boy.
"Oh man!" the Italian boy whined, reluctantly giving the money back to the dark skinned kid next to him and picked up his cap from the floor. "Ya still didn't say who thah girl is."
"Why don cha ask 'er yaself?" Cowboy said, looking at Charlotte.
"Me name's Racetrack Higgins, or just Race. What's yours, doll face?" the dark haired boy asked. Charlotte thought that she should be offended by being called doll face, but realized that Racetrack meant no negativity in it.
"My name's Kitty, but you can call me Kit." She answered
"Pretty name for a pretty girl." Race said with a wink. She blushed.
The guys in her time are mostly flirty douchebags that shout cat calls at her and say disgusting and inappropriate pick up lines that made Charlotte cringe, but she was used to it. She had the feeling that the guys in this time are going to be a lot different.
"Race don't be sucha flirt. Kit, order an' den I'll intraduce ya ta da odahs." Cowboy said.
Kit nodded. She looked at the chalkboard menu. All the items on the menu were written in a messy handwriting which to Kitty could only be a guy's handwriting. She decided to get a roast beef sandwich.
"Wait, Jack, I don't have any money on me." Kit said.
She mentally face palmed herself for not bringing her wallet which she had at least 50 dollars on her, plus whatever coins were in there. She was planning to use the money to get some awesome clothes at the mall, but she knew she wouldn't be going to a mall anytime soon. The money, she concluded, was bound to be a fortune at this day and age.
"Don't cha worry 'bout it, I'll pay fo' ya taday since ya just got 'ere. When ya start gettin' some money from selling papes, you'se can pay me den." Cowboy said
"I can pay you back as soon as we get back to the lodging house, I have some money in my bag." Said Kitty.
"Don't worry 'bout it. dis will be my treat. Consider it a 'Welcome ta da Neighborhood.' " Cowboy said.
After they ordered, Cowboy started to introduce people to Kitty. Sitting next to Race was Boots, the guy who made the bet about Cowboy's love life.
"Hiya Kit, I'm Boots." He said.
"Hi." Was all Kit could say because Jack started to introduce her to other newsies.
"Dis 'ere is Crutchy." Cowboy said pointing to a boy sitting with a crutch next to him. That's an easy name to remember, Kit thought to herself,
