I crept behind, following them. I was hoping I would overhear something that would tell me which one of them was lying. Darian had realized that he was being stalked and stopped. I ducked behind a tree when I saw Keegan morph from the cat to his human self. I poked my head around the tree to watch, somehow thinking that it would make my hearing better.

          “Darian.” Keegan growled.

Darian bowed and said sarcastically, “Yes Sire.” His tone changed and became more serious. “Do you honestly not trust her enough to let me walk her home?”

          “It’s not her I don’t trust; it’s you.”

Darian tapped his bright red cheek. “You obviously have nothing to worry about there. She can take care of herself. You know she’s hit me three times? I’m no threat to her.”

“You can confuse her.” Keegan countered.

“By telling her the truth?” Darian retorted. “Keegan, I know you and therefore I know that you have always wanted to show Enide up at something, anything. That’s why I know you used Lynette to get her spot as leader.”

“How could I use her to get on the Warren’s side? The Warren hates her existence.”

“By having Lynette become part of the group, something you knew Enide wouldn’t like. Enide wouldn’t tell the Warren though, in fear of getting herself in trouble for not stopping you. You knew Lynette was behind that tree that day when you punched me. You wanted her to find out about us. You could blame her finding out on me, Enide would get in trouble for not reporting what was going on. In the Warren’s mind, you would get negative points for friending her, but Enide would get twice as many negative points for her not liking it but not notifying the Warren.”

Keegan smirked and laughed. “That’s ridiculous, Darian. As if I could up with something as diabolical as that and hurt Lynette over a sibling rivalry. If you actually knew me, as you claim you do, you would know that I never wanted to become leader.”

“I know you claimed you never wanted to be leader, but I could see in your eyes that you really did. Did you even like Lynette when you developed this plan?”

“Did you even like Lynette when you went out with her to make Piper jealous?” Keegan fired back.

“Yes, I did. I was just hoping Piper would get jealous and Lynette and I would be a couple for a week when she thought that we had nothing in common. It didn’t go as I had planned.”

          “Obviously.”

Darian noticed, “The fact you avoided my question tells me everything I needed to know. You did not like her from the beginning like you acted.”

Keegan defended, “I do now. I did when I told her I liked her. I have since I actually started talking to her.”

          “Mhm.” Darian muttered unbelieving.

Keegan said angrily, “What do you want from me, Darian?”

“I want you to tell Lynette the truth. I fessed up; it’s your turn.”

Keegan reminded, “The only reason you told her was because you got caught.”

I had heard what I needed to, even though it still wasn’t clear. I started walking back towards my building. I didn’t want to watch them fight any longer. It seems that no one in this place likes me for me. There has to be a condition.
