I jumped out of my seat and ran towards the last place I had seen Keegan, with Rain not far behind me. We found Ace instead. “Where’s Keegan?” I yelled at him from the opposite end of the corridor from him.

“You know as well as I do that I can’t tell you where they are meeting. I can’t tell anyone.” He answered.

By this time, we were standing right next to each other. I grabbed him by his shirt collar. “Ace, if you don’t tell me, then Keegan is going to die. You better tell me right now or I might just have to hurt you.”

“Make a left, first door on the left.” I released him, but he continued to speak, “What can you do for him, Lynette?”

“Rain, go find Maria and meet me there. Don’t be late.” He took off running the way we had come from.

Ace’s question hit me hard. There was actually nothing I could do for him. Even so, I had to go to him. I would figure something out.

I barged into the room seconds later. Everyone swirled around to look at me. Keegan looked worse than the last time I saw him; he smiled at me and then fell over. I ran to him shrieking his name.

Maria and Rain came in arguing, “You don’t have enough energy Rain. You’ll die.”

“Yes, I do. I’ll be fine. I can’t let you do this.”

“It’s not going to hurt me.”

“Yes it will!”

Maria kneeled next to me and the white light came again. It was the first time I had ever seen her heal someone without being in contact with Rain. He was obviously not happy about it either. He grabbed her hand and for a moment the light faded. “Let go.” She growled, as the light came back.

“No.” he gasped.

“See, it’s already affecting you! Let go!” She yelled. He shook his head ‘no’ and Maria jerked her hand out of his. He collapsed, but nonetheless she placed her hand on the leg closest to me and as far away from Rain as she could; I grabbed it. “Lynette you have no idea what you are doing.”

“If it’s for Keegan, then I don’t really care.”

She sighed but continued to heal him. It didn’t really hurt, but it wasn’t pleasant. I got very woozy; I know if I had been trying to walk then I would have looked like Huey. I felt all of the energy drain from body. My eyelids got heavy causing them to shut and then me having to force them open.

Maria looked from me to Keegan to me. She whispered, “Just a bit longer I believe.”

Around then, Keegan’s eyes shot open. He surveyed his surroundings. He looked straight at me, whispered my name sadly, and very slowly and shakily grabbed my other hand. Maria shook her head at him and he let go. She said to him. “I’ll end up taking your energy too and that’s not going to help anything.”

Hours seemed to pass. Rain woke up and set his hand on top of hers. She glared at him but there was not much else she could do about it. His hand curled around hers and his nails dug slightly into the side of my hand.

Keegan coughed, “I’m fine. You can stop.”

“Lies. Keegan that poison had a special enzyme that breaks down the gene you have that allows you to shift. It is making all your white blood cells attack it while there’s that poison in your blood. I have to cleanse all your blood and try to get rid of that stubborn little enzyme. I finally got rid of it a moment ago. Now shut up and let me deal with your blood.”
