"Hey, you want to get something to eat?" Dan asked, his fingers interlocked with Phil's as they skated around.
"Sure, I'm getting kind of hungry, anyways," Phil responded. Dan led him off the ice, and they both walked out of the outdoor rink. The trees around them were strung with lights, making for a wintery scene, though the ground wasn't snow-covered. Both of them carefully took off their skates, putting them in bags that they slung over their shoulders. Once Phil had finished, Dan took him by the arm and began weaving his way through the people that milled around the area.
"I know this place where we can get crêpes, you like crêpes, right?"
"Who doesn't?" Phil replied cheerfully as he got dragged by Dan, who rushed along the sidewalk.

Eventually the two boys arrived at a small shop, and Dan pulled Phil along inside with him. After ordering, the boys sat down, waiting for their food to be made.
"You seem very keen on holding my hand tonight, Danny boy," Phil mused, raising his eyebrows, giving Dan a playful wink.
"Oh, shut up, your the one who wanted me to 'not let go' on the ice."
"And you're the one who dragged me here, holding on to my hand the entire way."
"I didn't want you to get lost, again."
"I literally just got here, I'm sorry I don't know my way around quite yet."
"Well maybe if you hadn't randomly left."
"You were pissing me off..." Phil said quietly. Ever since Phil's outburst, they hadn't really revisited the incident. They remained silent for a while, just eating.
"You know, you're like, my best friend. It just made me angry that there was something obviously wrong and you couldn't seem to bring yourself to tell me what the hell it was. I suppose it was kind of nosy, though. You did say it was personal and you just didn't want to talk about it, I guess I should've respected that a bit more."
"I think I should tell you, anyway, though. Otherwise you're just going to keep worrying, right?" Dan asked, his eyes flitting away from Phil's gaze.
"I suppose but if you don't want to-"
"I do, through. I'm ready now," he confirmed.
"If you insist," Phil said, allowing Dan to speak.
"Okay, so you remember how I told you that my mum kicked me out of the house to get a life?"
"Yeah...?"
"Well, let's just say it's much easier to lie over text than in person.... My mum kicked me out for being bi. That's also why she flipped out when she saw my texts with you, why she asked if we were 'good friends'. I guess she thought you were my boyfriend or something," Dan said, chuckling half-heartedly at the last comment.
"Oh, Dan I didn't know...."
"Yeah, because I didn't tell you."
"You didn't have to... if I had known it was to this extent...."
"It's fine, really. The topping on the cake is my dad, though. He was just completely against any idea and wouldn't speak to me or see me. My mum at least made an attempt to visit me and everything."
"Yeah, then she went all crazy," Phil said, rolling his eyes.
"She was always kind of crazy, Phil," Dan laughed, now with more heart.

They continued to eat their crêpes, both of which were Nutella banana.
"Oh, Dan, you've got some Nutella on your chin," Phil said, taking a napkin and leaning across the table and wiping his face. "Better," he said. Dan quickly excused himself to the bathroom, and put his back to the door, his face a ridiculous red.
"Holy shit," he said to himself, "do you really feel that way about Phil? Or is this just another mini-crush thing? It's like a middle school crush the way I'm starting to act... blushing ferociously and freaking out when we hold hands, for god's sake."
Dan took a moment to calm himself down, waiting for his blush to subside, and his mind to clear. "He's my best friend at this point, and of course I have to acquire feelings for him that will only grow because he fucking lives with me! Is the world with me or against me on this one?"

Dan left the bathroom before the amount of time he spent in there became suspicious. Returning to his table with Phil, but upon sitting down he noticed that they had both finished their food.
"Should we head out?"
"I guess we should, right?" Phil responded, standing up, as did Dan. When they went back outside a cold wind hit them, and the sky had turned dark.
"Are you ready to go back, or do you want to stay out and do something?" Dan asked his friend, who stared at the sky full of stars.
"I think I wanna stay here for a bit," Phil said. Dan let his gaze drift upwards as he took in the beautiful night sky.
"Okay," he said, smiling.
