"So, you trust me, a stranger, so much that you go out to dinner with me?" George raised an eyebrow from across the table. Phil just smiled, and said,
"Yeah, it seems to be a thing I do. Trust strangers, I mean. I met my roommate because I trusted a stranger."
"Really?" George laughed.
"Yeah, it's a long story, but he's kinda my best and only friend," Phil shrugged, mentally facepalming himself for telling a potential love interest that he's very antisocial.
"That's honestly very cool. How long have you known him?"
"Couple months," Phil said, "but we have a very special bond, I guess. Not romantic, I mean, just you know, a bromance! Not bromance... just a friendly friendship of friends!" He rambled, becoming flustered throughout. George just chuckled at Phil.
"Your personality is adorable," he shook his head, grinning.
"That's gay. I'm gay," Phil said aloud. He immediately slapped a hand over his own mouth. Why was he acting like this? He couldn't control his emotion.
"Well so am I, so that's okay with me," George said, still laughing slightly at Phil's awkward adorableness. It was silent for a while until they got their food, and they made small talk after that.
"I listened to the radio show," Phil informed George. "Dan kinda listened, too. You're famous," he joked.
"I mean, I'm just the most fabulous celebrity ever. Everyone knows who I am!" George said sarcastically, attempting to flip his hair. Phil laughed at his attempt and flipped his own fringe with ease.
"You've gotta have the right haircut."
"Maybe you're right, maybe you're not," George responded, taking a sip from his wine glass. "So, have you ever had any girlfriends? I mean, I know you're gay, but have you ever had a girlfriend because of social pressure?"
"No, I've always believed in being in a relationship with someone I truly like. When I was younger, I never had actual crushes on girls, I would tell my mom I did when I was a teen so she thought I was normal. Once I was out of high school I came out and she was totally fine with it."
"And your father?" George questioned. Phil hesitated.
"My mum never got married. We don't know who my father is, some sperm donor," he chuckled. Then he realized something.I never even told Dan about not having a dad... so why did I just up and tell George, someone I've known for literally a day? I suppose I really trust him.
"Well, I can't really make you feel better because I have both my parents and they're okay with me in all my homosexual glory, same with my sister. Everyone's pretty cool with it."
"That's awesome. How long have you been out?"
"Years. I think it was freshman year? I mean I didn't have a girlfriend or a clue, so when my family questioned why I didn't like anyone I just told them," he shrugged, giving a lopsided smirk to Phil.
"You ever dated?" Phil inquired, resting his head on his hand. He tilted his head doing so, and it gave George quite an adorable image. He stared for a moment before snapping back to reality and answering the question.
"Yeah, one dude in high school. We had a steady relationship for more than a year... but we ended up breaking it off. It didn't work out," he broke eye contact, his smile dropping from his expression.
"Aww, well, it's all good now. You're out of school and it's in the past," Phil reached his hand across the table and pat George's shoulder.
"Yeah, I guess that's why I'm here?"
Phil retracted his hand in surprise.
"Are you classifying this as a date?" George became nervous, it seemed to him that Phil wasn't happy with the idea.
"Is that... okay?" He laughed, running a hand through his hair.
"Yeah, I'm just shocked. You're so forward. I'm... not like you that way, y'know? I'm just not as... confident as you are."
"You don't have to be," George assured, "I am me and you are you. If you're socially awkward, then so be it. If I'm outgoing and forward, that's fine, too! You just being you is great, Phil."
"You're speaking as if you've known me for years, yet this is the first time we've ever hung out," Phil shook his head, smiling. "I guess time doesn't really matter with us, does it?"
"No, it doesn't. Even still, though... I want to get to know you more, Phil. I know your personality. An energetic, friendly, and maybe socially awkward person... but like... what are your likes and dislikes, your hobbies?" Phil smiled at George's curiosity for him. He enjoyed that the man was interested in him, but also that he was kind and supportive himself. George managed to wear away Phil's worries about himself in a matter of a few sentences. He adored him for that, and he decided he wanted to get to know him more, too.Hey, it's author-chan (one of my readers has been calling me that, so I'm gonna call myself that, too).
