Taylor's POV

I didn't know what to do. Leah wouldn't let go of me. We spent so much time trying to get her to sit down or into a police officers arms but she wouldn't let us.

It tore me apart to see her like this. She was shaking so bad and I could feel my t-shirt had been soaked with her tears. We spent about an hour trying to get her off of me.

"Ms Swift, you can't just keep her. We need to hand her over to authorities." The police offier explained.

"I understand that but can't we just come back another day? She's so scared and won't let go." I said.

"I'm sorry but that would only make her more attached to you. I'll go and check with my boss though. There may be a chance for you to have custody for a little longer with a bit of paperwork, until we find her family."

"Wait, I thought you found her dad?" Adam says, joining the conversation.

"As far as I know we haven't had any information on her family."

"On the phone I understood you had located the man she was with."

"Oh yes. He wasn't related to her though, he was a foster carer. Leah was in a children's home, you see. Her father passed away and her mother struggled because of it and became a drug addict. It was better for both of them for Leah to be placed in a children's home. We are yet to find her mother." I absorbed all this new information and held the shaking child tightly. This little girl had been through so much and she didn't deserve it.

"Hi." Says a woman as she enters the room. She introduces herself and shakes our hands. "My daughter is a huge fan, by the way. Anyway, I've got some papers here. If you are ok with it then just sign them and you'll look after the girl whilst we continue the case. It would be a big help since we are lacking carers and places in children's homes. Oh, and I would really appreciate it if you could sign for my daughter too." She passes me the papers and they say that they'll let me and Adam have some alone time. I quickly give my autograph for her daughter and then turn to Adam.

"Just please take into a count the fact that we both have insanely busy schedules and we're in the public eye." Adam says. I don't look at him as I'm thinking. Instead my eyes are fixed on the sleeping child which is resting in my arms.

"She's ours, Adam. Didn't you feel it? And the way she is always afraid to let anyone touch her besides me, I couldn't just leave her." I say without realising the tears streaming down my face. Adam leans in and wipes the tears from my cheaks. He kisses me, being careful of the baby.

"Let's sign the papers then." He says, smiling and picking up the pen from the desk.

The officers walk back in and we discuss the situation. We sign the papers and they explain to us that someone will come over later today to check the house is safe for a child.

-----

I hear knocks at the door and Adam gets up from the couch to answer it. I sit there, watching the little mermaid with Leah lying on me.

"Hey babe, he's here. We won't need you though so you can just stay in here." Adam says, walking off with the man to show him the house. The man had a clipboard in hand and was making notes.

My attention is back on the 2 year old now. I watch her wide eyes as she smiles at the film I had put on for her to watch. She lies on my chest and as the credits start to play she turns around and buries her little body into my chest. I hugged her really tight.

And at that moment, I felt like a mother. I had so much love for this little girl. I wanted to keep her so badly, to raise her and watch her grow up. But underneath all that love was guilt. Because I wasn't going to be able to be her mother. I was going to do everything I could to make it possible. But out there somewhere is her mother.
