Oliver and Evelyn were training on a giant obstacle course. The spring heat was intense but a small wind chill helped cool them down.

They ran alongside each other to meet a wall with a bunch of wooden ledges. The wall was over fifteen feet tall and the ledges sometimes shifted their angle.

“How come you need training?” he asked as she climbed the wall perfectly.

“It’s more about getting the suit and weapons” she answered.

He put one hand on a ledge and pulled himself up. He climbed a few more ledges when a ledge dropped and he was left hanging. He kicked out against the wall and hurled himself up onto the next ledge. He climbed skillfully onto he was at the top. He was pulling himself up when his foot supported ledge shifted. He would’ve fallen if Evelyn hadn’t been there, grabbed him, and pulled him up.

“Thanks” he said and gave her a cheery smile. She smiled back and flipped her hair out of her face.

Oliver’s black tank top was soaked with sweat.

“What did you mean about the weapons?” he asked.

“Deborah watches us and takes all her notes and tells the blacksmiths what kind of weapons would best suit us. Then they also create a suit to hold our weapons and match our fighting style” Evelyn answered as she caught a flying disk.

The next obstacle was a little machine that shot out plastic disks. One of the rebellion soldiers supplied it with its ammo.

Oliver duck and dodged but got hit with over fifty disks before Evelyn knocked out the soldier and broke the machine. She had a black eye from a disk that hit her in the face.

“Stupid machine” she hissed.

They left to the next challenge which was a long platform with different wooden statues that popped out.

“Where does your dad get all this stuff?” he asked as they stepped onto the platform.

A statue bounced near Evelyn and she kicked its top, sending wooden pieces flying.

Oliver advance and pounded a statue that scrapped Evelyn’s back. He helped her up and uprooted a nearby statue and used it to obliterate the other obstacles. He liked this challenge.

They finished that obstacle and arrived at a mud pool with a rope hanging over it. Oliver swung across the pool first and threw the rope back to Evelyn. She flew across and into his arms. She hopped out and they were at the final obstacle.

Evelyn blew the hair out of her face and smiled at the challenge.

The other trainees had already gone and gotten their times. Peter volunteered to work with Brook and they held the best time.

The final challenge was to get past a large group of soldiers and hit the buzzer together.

Evelyn charged and took down the first guard with a cartwheel takedown. Then she threw a man with her feet and he landed in Oliver’s arms. He threw the man back further back. He landed in the mud pool. Oliver advanced with Evelyn and counted a soldier’s fist with his own and knocked him down flat with both hands.

He wished is Blacksmith self could see him now.

Cecily, Lacey, and Kitsune all cheered him on in the audience.

Evelyn did a takedown on two guards using her hands and feet to flip them over. Her long blonde hair flew everywhere and her slender shape dodged attacks easily. She wore gold leggings, a gold long sleeve shirt, her usual boots, and fingerless gloves. She ducked a guards punched and kicked him twice in the face, sending him flying.
