It wasn't exactly midnight, but it was around two in the morning. Alec laid awake in his bed at the institute. He couldn't sleep, tossing and turning for hours on end. The only sounds that could be heard through the institute was the sounds of his parents arguing and his mother and sister crying. Max, his little brother, had recently died and his entire family was a wreck. They were all sent home for the time being and for the funeral. Alec didn't cry; he wasn't supposed to. He was a shadowhunter and shadowhunters didn't show emotion let alone cry. He was trying to keep it together for the rest of his family's sake. Before he even realized it he felt the warm tears streaming down his face and had a hard time breathing. He buried his face in the pillow as he tried to keep quiet. He didn't want to be heard and he knew the rest of his family thought he was asleep by then. Eventually he couldn't take sitting there anymore. He got up and got dressed, drawing a few runes on his arms to help him sneak out of the house. He was walking around for a while before he found Magnus's loft. He was currently dating the warlock but hadn't seen him in a little while since he was in Alicante. He sighed sadly, knowing that the warlock was probably asleep at this time of night. But he needed someone, anyone really. So he slowly climbed up the fire escape, not bothering to try and wake him up and knock on the door to see him. He sat in the front of his one window where he could slightly see inside of the quiet loft. Alec leaned slightly on the pole and just stared crying more. He buried his face in his arms and sighed shakily. He shut his eyes as all the tears ran down his face and now his hands and arms.
Magnus was sleeping quietly in his bed with his cat. He was curled up to himself and the cat under all the covers he had. He woke up later on to the sound of...crying? He sat up slowly and tried to listen as his eyes adjusted to the dark. He did hear crying. He frowned slightly and slowly got out of bed. He pulled a robe on and his slippers before leaving his room. He went to the source of the nose and saw outside the window and saw his shadowhunter boyfriend. He was happy to see him, as it had been a little while since he saw him in person and he never knew when to call him since he didn't exactly know he was home at the time. But he frowned deeply when he realized his boyfriend was crying. He quickly went to the window and opened up the window. He watched him for a moment and held his arm up to him.
"Alexander? Alexander darling are you alright?" Alec jerked his head up and saw Magnus there in his pajamas. He quickly wiped his eyes and looked at him "yeah...yeah I'm okay Magnus" he whispered. Magnus frowned "no you're not, you're crying so there's obviously something wrong.. you can talk to me darling" he held his arms out for him. Alec slowly got up and came inside, Magnus quickly pulling him into a hug. Alec shut his eyes and buried his face in his shoulder. He couldn't help but start crying more, feeling comforted. Magnus rubbed his back gently kissed his temple. Alec pulled his face away and looked up at Magnus as he cupped his cheeks in his hands. "What's wrong Alexander?" he asked quietly. Alec sighed and he started to tell Magnus everything that he had went through within the last two weeks. When he was done Alec had tears in his eyes and his voice was cracking in the end of his story. Magnus frowned and hugged him tightly. "Oh Alexander...I'm so sorry.." he kissed his forehead gently and kept him close. Alec sniffled "I'm really sorry I woke you up...its such an ungodly hour right now and I didn't know where else to go.." he sighed again and shut his eyes. Magnus smiled slightly and took his hands "Alexander you're always welcome in my home you know that more than anyone." he smiled and kissed his hands gently "Why don't we get back to bed?" he asked quietly and smiled. Alec nodded "you mean I can spend the night?" he asked quietly. Magnus chuckled "of course you can darling...maybe a few things can help you get to bed?" he asked quietly with a small grin.
Magnus helped Alec settle into a nice warm shower as he made him some tea to relax his nerves and help him fall asleep for the night. When Alec came out of the shower he put on some fresh clean clothes that Magnus let him barrow. They were warm and soft and incredibly comfortable. Alec crawled into bed as Magnus brought him some tea and the cat curled up at their feet. Alec smiled happily and sipped it carefully as it was still a little hot. Magnus opened his arms out to him and Alec happily laid in them as he finished up his tea and set the cup down. Magnus buried his face in his hair for a moment, taking the moment in. Alec smelt like soap and the smallest hints of leather and sweat, but Magnus loved it. Alec curled into him and shut his eyes. Magnus smiled and looked down at him. Alec sighed "Thank you Magnus...for everything you did. You mean the whole world to me and I'm so happy to be back home with you...I missed you so much" he smiled. Magnus stroked his hair back gently. "Of course darling. I'm happy you're home too. I missed you." he chuckled and kissed his temple. "You aren't leaving anytime soon okay? Just know I'll always be there for you okay?" Alec smiled happily "I don't want to leave. I want to stay here with you" he smiled and kissed him gently again and yawned. Magnus smiled "get some rest Alexander. Tomorrow is a new day and I'll be here holding onto you and not letting go no matter what" he whispered in his ear. Alec smiled and kissed him again. He shut his eyes and laid his head on his chest. Soon enough he fell asleep to the sounds of Magnus's heart beat. Magnus rubbed his back gently as the shadowhunter slept in his arms, holding onto him tightly and not letting him go as he saw out the window the tiniest cracks of dawn from the sun slowing starting to rise.
