Riley•

"James missed you so badly when he was in England," Ella says through the phone, "He was meant to go home after the competition but he didn't want to see you because he would be in too much pain to see you with Alfie. I told him he could stay as long as he wants,"

"Why didn't you call me?" I ask

She sighs, "We weren't exactly friends, Riley not after what I did to your team in Internationals,"

I take a deep breath, "When did James start drinking?"

"I'm not sure. He went to the pub a lot and one day he got home drunk and started wreaking my house. When he got somber, I told him that he needed to see you because he was destroying himself. He needs you Riley," Ella says

"Everyone says that!" I exclaim in frustration, "But he sees me like a ghost!"

"Maybe it's because he doesn't believe that you are there. I mean, imagine, a year is a pretty long time and then suddenly your ex-girlfriend shows up. He probably thinks he's imagining you, hallucinating,"

"What do I do, Ella?" I ask

"Stay with him, don't let him out of your sight and please... keep him safe," She answers, "I've gotta go now, it was nice chatting to you,"

"Bye Ella,"

"Oh and Riley? It's obvious he still loves you," The call hangs up and I place it on my chest.

"I still love him too," I whisper to myself.

Eldon•

I check in on James at night before I go to bed and find him still awake.

"Hey bro," I greet and sit at the edge of his bed

"Hey," He whispers, rubbing his bloodshot eyes

"You were pretty wasted, are you feeling alright now?" I ask, handing him some 65% cacao

He takes it and nibbles on it slightly, "I'm always not alright, Elds,"

"You know you helped me when I was missing Thalia and now I want to help you, okay?"

He looks up at me and gives me a small smile but it never reaches his eyes, "Nothing can help me now. I understand that I'm like this because of some girl but... I-I don't know how to cope with this,"

I tap him on the shoulder, "She's here for you now and I promise that she won't go away,"

He stares at me for a long while in confusion, "What do you mean?"

"Riley's here. She's here in this cottage," I repeat

James continues staring at me, "What?" That's when he starts shaking and his eyes full of tears, "Why are you all like this? She's not here! She's never going to be here!"

"James," I whisper but he shakes his head.

"Get away from me!" He shouts and pushes me off the bed.

I get up and walk out of the room. I turn my head and my eyes meet Riley. I can tell she's crying as well because of what she heard.

I come to her and hug her tightly, her arms wrap around me as she cried.

"Don't worry, we'll get through this,"
