Chapter seven

It has taken us two days to reach Negro town. I don't like the atmosphere around here. It feels like death itself is lingering around. Fortunately, we found out I never lived here. In those days, Shakey started to teach me. We agreed to stay in a town or city for one or two days. He is currently practising his sword skills. He taught me a few tricks too. I, on the other hand, am reading a book. Shakey had told me that I can discover information of the world that way. I'm actually surprised that I can read. Knowledge flows into me. It feels satisfying.

Earlier today, Shakey had asked me to show him my sword. He had mumbled while examining: "Good balance. Beautiful patterns on the steel of the blade." He softly touched it. "The grip is nearly three times the length of the pommel, so a tight and perfect hilt. I'd say it's a really fine sword." Then he had ensured me: "Take good care of this. A sword is like your best friend. It'll help you withstand through trouble."

I shake my head at the thought. He sure knows a lot. After a while, I hear Shakey strolling towards me.

"I'll be going soon." He lets me know. Since we hardly have any Kadajas left, he decided to take a job to earn some. I have to stay here at our room.

"Be careful." I press him on the heart.

He winks. "I always am. Don't let anyone in."

I nod. He takes his key and leaves me alone. I spend the entire day reading. I should do something back for him, but what? I think I have an idea.

Later that evening, Shakey opens the door and shouts loudly: "I'm home!"

Meanwhile I'm in the kitchen. He clearly smells it.

"What are you doing?" He asks when he pops his head around the corner.

I flash a smile at his direction. "I'm cooking a meal for you. You deserve it."

He lifts his eyebrow and comes closer. "I didn't know you could cook."

"Well, I'm just following what they say in the book." I point at it.

"Ok, I'll be in the living room. Don't hesitate to ask for my help."

"I will."

"You know. I'm sure it will taste good." He gives me another one of his sweet winks and goes.

I turn back at the dinner with a smile. I have decided to prepare scrambled eggs. Apparently it's an easy meal. I look in the book. I have already collected the ingredients. 'Take a small amount of butter in a frying pan and melt it'. Done.

'Beat the eggs in a bowl'. Beat them? They do have a hard shell. Maybe it'll become softer when it's warmer. I throw the four eggs into the bowl.

'Add cream, salt and pepper'. I can't find cream, but salt and pepper will do perfectly.

'Pour this mixture into the frying pan'. Ok, here goes. The mixture makes a hissing sound, but it seems to be alright. I'm not sure if I like cooking. It's kind of scary. The fire is blue!

'When it's partially cooked, slowly scrape the mixture towards the centre of the pan until cooked'. How can I know it's cooked? I think I'll just have to guess. I wait a bit. I clearly hear the box playing. Television? A nice smell is coming from the cooking plate. After a while, I take it off and shout to Shakey: "Dinner is ready!"

I'm holding two plates and want to walk over to the table. All of a sudden, I freeze. I hear two plates crash on the floor. A voice is calling my name, but it's a distance away from me. I fall down onto my knees, pressing my hands against my head. I don't care about the shatters which are scratching in my skin. Images flash in front of me. It has been a while, but they reappear. The island quickly passes by then I see the large machines with green water again. Abruptly, I see white coloured halls. Chains are established to the dark walls of a small chamber. I hear a piercing shriek. Then the face of the man with the grey eyes shows up. This time, he kindly smiles at me. I open my eyes again. I feel pain in my knees and see that they are bleeding. Shakey is shouting to me, but I can't hear him clearly yet.
