Chapter XIII Distance

Alex just shrugs and says, "Sometimes people do stupid things......" Alex cups Mikayla's cheek with her hand. They stare into each others eyes. Mikayla whispers, "Alec...." Alex whispers, "Mika...." Alex starts to lean in.  "Al......ex, um I'm um...I'm gonna um bye" says Miles.  Miles runs off.  Alex and Mikayla are looking at where Miles was.  Mikayla giggles.  Alex gets up and starts to walk off.  Mikayla asks, "Alec, where are you going?"  Alex says, "I just remembered that I had some things to do.  I'll uh see you around."  Alex walks off.  Mikayla can't stop smiling.  She gets up and walks back to practice.

One week later

Mikayla walks over to Miles and Carly.  They are sitting under a tree talking.  They hear Mikayla walking over and look up.  "Hey" Mikayla says.  "Sup" says Miles.  Carly says, "Hey."  Mikayla asks, "Have you guys seen Alec?"  Carly says, "I haven't seen him today which is weird cuz I usually have seen him by now."  "Today"asks Mikayla.  Miles replies, "I was hanging out with him earlier today when we were pulling a pran- I mean hanging out."  Carly asks, "You were hanging out when you were "hanging out"?"  Miles says, "Shut up."

Carly says, "Hopefully no one tells Chiron."  "You wouldn't" says Miles.  "Why do you ask" asks Carly.  Mikayla says, "Because I haven't seen her in a week, I feel like she's avoiding me."  "Oh he is avoiding you" says Miles.  Miles realizes what he said and eyes go wide.  He covers his mouth with his hand.  Carly slaps him upside the head.  Mikayla just looks at Miles and then looks down at ground.  Mikayla says, "Oh....."  Miles says, "I mean-"  "Give it up Miles, its too late.  Mikayla look, Alex has had a rough past" says Carly interrupting Miles.

Miles says, "After something happened and her becoming famous, Alex has only ever let two people in.  One of them was me and the other one betrayed her.  The only reason she puts up with Carly is because of me.  Your the first person in a while that has broken down her walls that fast.  Just give her space and when she is ready, she will talk to you."  Mikayla asks, "Why do you keep talking in riddles?  Can't you just give me some straight answers?"  Miles responds, "It's not my place to tell, you need to hear it from her."
