Chapter XII The Day After

Mikayla walks with her cabin to breakfast.  She sees Alex sitting alone.  Their eyes meet and she gives her a small smile.  She smiles back at her.  After breakfast Alex and the Hermes cabin head to the green for sword practice.  Miles and Alex are practicing together.  Miles lectures Alex, "What were you thinking?  You know she is gonna leave now."  Alex rolls eyes and responds, "I was thinking that she has the right to choose whether she wants to leave or not."  Miles says, "I still can't believe you knocked out Carly and I."

Alex says, "I said I was sorry."  Amy walks over and says, "Such a beautiful bromance."  Alex smiles and says, "You're just jealous that Miles gets more action than you."  Amy stutters for a few seconds and then glares at Alex.  Carly and Miles just laugh.  Alex smirks at Amy.  The rest of the Hermes and Ares cabin laughs or 'ooohs'.  Amy composes herself and says, "Or perhaps you're just jealous that I got an upgrade."  Amy smirks at Alex.  Carly and Miles immediately stop laughing and stare at Amy shocked that she actually said that.  The smirk on Alex's face vanishes and she has a blank expression on her face.  

Alex asks in disbelief, "What?"  Amy says, "I mean even the new camper, that is a girl, showed you up."  Everyone else has stopped laughing at this point and gasps.  Carly and Miles look at Amy with disbelief on face.  Carly says, "She went there."  Miles states, "This isn't going to be good."  The two cabins just look in between Alex and Amy.  Amy continues to smirk at Alex.  Alex continues to stare at Amy with blank expression on face.  Alex throws her right arm in the air and Amy goes flying through the air into the lake screaming all the way.  Alex puts his arm down, puts cap on riptide, puts riptide in her pocket, and walks off.

Everyone is still starring in direction of lake.  Miles asks, "Umm....so you guys want to have a fight off or something?"  Mikayla runs after Alex.  She sees Alex sitting on the beach watching the waves.  She sits down next to her.  Alex looks over and sees Mikayla.  Alex looks back to the waves.  They stare at the waves for a few minutes.  Mikayla says, "I'm not leaving."  "Your not" Alex asks.  Mikayla says, "No, i'm gonna stay."

Alex asks, "What changed your mind?"  Mikayla says, "You."  Alex asks, "Me?"  Mikayla answers, "Yes you.  I've been doing a lot of thinking about what you have told me and what you did for me at capture the flag.  You made me realize that if I want a chance at staying alive out there, I need training.  Also how you were willing to help me win even though there was a chance that I would leave."  Mikayla looks at Alex.  Alex looks at her and gives her a small smile.  Mikayla says, "On top of that you were willing to hurt your own reputation here to make me look better.  Why?"

Alex just shrugs and says, "Sometimes people do stupid things......"  Alex cups Mikayla's cheek with her hand.  They stare into each others eyes.  Mikayla whispers, "Alec...."  Alex whispers, "Mika...."  Alex starts to lean in.
