Harold sat in the makeshift laboratory in the capitol building. He was trying to bolt in an arm to the torso of his new robot. This was his first year joining as a contestant in the Annual World Wide Science Convention and he was building a robot. It's name was Sik, well this one was Prototype Sik 3-8. He sighed as the arm fell off.
"Hey kid, I need you to help me out here." Said Harold. "Sir, my name is Aaron. Not kid, I'm eighteen years old and I am smarter than you." Said Aaron. "I can fire you." Said Harold. "Okay fine, what do you need?" Asked Aaron. "I need a triple hex wrench and a triple hex bolt." Said Harold. "Triple hex? Why use that when we have new Quad Hex bolts that are even stronger?" Asked Aaron. "The Quad Hexes are harder to use, they need special oils to actually bolt into place and we still haven't gotten our shipment in." Said Harold.
Aaron picked up a clipboard hanging on the wall. "Why are you so archaic? Clipboards are such a mess to use, no organization." Said Aaron. "Well it works best for me." Said Harold. "Shipment was supposed to be delivered two weeks ago." Said Aaron. "Damn, I'll call Jane to get the shipment over here." Said Harold as he screwed in the bolt. "Good idea." Said Aaron. "Where is my Triple Hex wrench and bolts?" Asked Harold. "Sorry, here they are." Said Aaron rolling a cart over to Harold. "Thank you Aaron." Said Harold. Aaron rolled his eyes and sat down at his desk.
Aaron was Harold's son that he thought had died in the apocalypse. Aaron was found in their old home when the world was restored. His wife, and Aaron's mother had died in a fishing accident during a tournament. Harold finally got the Triple Hex bolted in place and he pressed a button on the controller he took from a console. The arm moved up and he moved the hand and he grabbed a cup off the table. "Haha! It works!" Said Harold. "All you need now is the left arm, legs, and full head." Said Aaron. "I don't care, at least I have the arms in place. I am going to run down to the docks to see how long the leg shipment will be." Said Harold. "Have fun." Said Aaron as Harold ran out the door.
Harold was running down the main carpeted hall and he bumped into Sarah who was looking at her tablet. "Oomph, I'm so sorry Sarah." Said Harold. "It is fine." Said Sarah picking up her tablet and straightening her glasses. "Were are you off to in such a hurry?" Asked Sarah. "Oh to the docks, my shipment of Quad Hex oil hasn't come in and I need more parts." Said Harold. "Sounds interesting, how's Aaron?" Asked Sarah. "He is amazing as always, teenagers though can be annoying and unhelpful." Said Harold. "You knew us as teenagers." Said Sarah. "Exactly." Said Harold as he and Sarah laughed. "Okay well Harold I won't keep you from work." Said Sarah. "Okay, I'll see you later Sarah." Said Harold as he walked down the hall.
Harold walked down the hall and out the front door and down the steps. People were milling about the courtyard and he could see Justin walking Chasm through the courtyard. Harold saw his bike resting against the stone fountain and he hopped on it. He started to pedal towards the docks.
A few minutes later Harold reached the docks. "Get that crane to bay 14." Said the foreman. "Hello." Said Harold as he pedaled up to the man. "Hello sir, what can I do for you?" Asked the man. "I need to ask about shipments." Said Harold. "Yes, go onto the office and Janice will take care of you." Said the man. "Thanks." Said Harold pedaling towards the office.
Harold walked into the office and a bell dinged. "Hello, how can I help you?" Asked a voice. "Are you Janice?" Asked Harold. "Yes I am, and you?" Asked the Janice. "I am Harold, head scientist of Kang Laboratories." Said Harold. "Ah yes, your shipment came in but we haven't been able to get it out of port due to restrictions on the oil. The parts have arrived and are en route to your offices. You want the oils now? You need to sign." Said Janice. "Okay, I'll take the paper and the oils, can you deliver them, I rode my bike over." Said Harold. "Of course, thank you. The oils will be delivered by tomorrow morning." Said Janice. Harold waved goodbye and walked out the door. He hopped on his bike and rode back to the laboratory.
"Harold, the robot's legs came in." Said Aaron. "Yeah I know, the oils will be in by tomorrow morning." Said Harold. "Good, I like the Quad Hexes." Said Aaron. "The Triple Hexes are fine, we can still use them. Remember that the quad hexes and triple hexes are all the laboratories, not ours, we are borrowing them." Said Harold. "Yeah I know, but so that means all the equipment and parts are from the laboratories as well?" Asked Aaron. "No anything we build come from our pockets." Said Harold. "Ours? Don't you mean yours?" Asked Aaron. "Yeah, yeah, whatever." Said Harold.
A few hours passed. "Aaron, it's late, go home." Said Harold. "But I want to help." Said Aaron. You can't, I'm waiting so we can use the Quad Hexes for the right arm and then left arm, but I need the oils which will be here tomorrow morning." Said Harold. "Then there's no reason to be here." Said Aaron. "True, fine, I'll go home." Said Harold. "Good, we can stop and get some chicken wings." Said Aaron.
They walked out of the lab and Harold locked it up. "Just you wait Aaron, a few months from now and the new lab will be built." Said Harold. "It will be amazing." Said Aaron. "Ah, Aaron, you'll be at the University." Said Harold. "University! No way, I want to stay at the lab." Said Aaron. "You'll have to go to the University at some point so why not now." Said Harold as they drove home. "Cause I want to stay in the labs to help you and go to The Annual World Wide Science Convention." Said Aaron. "Those are in the summer, so why not we make a deal. You go to University and you can help me design and show off our entry into the Annual World Wide Science Convention." Said Harold. "Deal." Said Aaron.
