Harold landed hard onto the ground of a cobblestone street. He felt dizzy and tired as he tried to sit up. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Sir you are almost unconscious. Let me take care of you." Said a man grabbing Harold by his collar and carrying him towards a doorway and into a dark room. Harold closed his eyes and passed out.
A while later Harold woke up. His head hurt and he felt a cool rag on his forehead. "Oh good, you're awake. I was worried you might've gone into a coma on me." Said the man walking up to him. Harold opened his eyes more and he adjusted to the room. There was a dim light in the corner with a book open below it. He was on a rough wooden table and a man wearing a plaid shirt, and brown trousers was looking at him.
"Who are you?" Asked Harold. "I am Jim, Jim Williams." Said Jim. "Well Jim, I'm Harold." Said Harold. "Last name?" Asked Jim. "Yeah, Moore, Harold Moore." Said Harold. "That's a nice last name." Said Jim. "Thank you." Said Harold. "Well Harold, you seem fine. Where do you live?" Asked Jim. "On Kang Islands." Said Harold. "Sir, you must be crazy, Kang Islands is not here." Said Jim. "What do you mean?" Asked Harold. "Kang Island was overrun by the Russians." Said Jim. "When?" Asked Harold. "Oh a century or so ago." Said Jim. "A hundred years ago? That's impossible." Said Harold. "No, it happened." Said Jim.
Harold stood up and walked towards the door. "Not a good idea." Said Jim. "Why not?" Asked Harold. "We have a curfew." Said Jim. "Why?" Asked Harold. "The war." Said Jim. "War?" Asked Harold. "The Sky City Wars. It's between our country Sky City and the other one that's a few hundred miles away. They are Stark Town." Said Jim. "How did it start?" Asked Harold. The leader of Stark wanted to join forces with us, our town has been flourishing and we've been doing great. While Stark has been slowly depleting. Their resources started low and have declined. But since we denied they declared war." Said Jim.
Aaron landed and rolled across a cobblestone street. It was dark and quiet and no one seemed to be around. He stood up and saw all the windows were shut. "Hello!" Called out Aaron. He only heard wind rushing past him. He walked forward and heard an engine in the distance. Headlights shone around the corner and he was bathed in bright light.
"Hey! You aren't allowed to be out here! Come here!" Yelled a guard. The truck sped up towards Aaron and he ducked into an alleyway. "He's getting away! Go get him!" Yelled a guard as the truck screeched to a halt and he heard people running after him. He turned down another alley and he couldn't see in front of him. He saw a ladder and started to climb it. Once he reached the top he kicked it down and ran across the rooftops.
Harold heard a loud screech of tires across the cobblestone and he looked at Jim. "Just another troublemaker." Said Jim. "What is the punishment?" Asked Harold. "Nothing serious. You have to go do community service for three hours." Said Jim. "Doesn't sound too bad." Said Harold. "Oh well, the community service is working in the sky trams and transporting gear from the ground up." Said Jim. "Is it dangerous?" Asked Harold. "Very." Said Jim handing Harold a cup of coffee.
Aaron was running across the roofs when there was a huge gap in front of him. He pushed harder and jumped. He missed the landing and hit the side of the building and smashed through a window. There was a scream as Aaron stood up. He heard yells as doors were slammed open. Aaron jumped out the window and landed hard onto the ground. He ran across the street and found an open grate and jumped in. He sat down as guards ran by yelling. He slowly made is way around the tunnel system when he saw a huge hole going into the clouds below. He crawled back quickly and sat there until day break.
Harold opened his eyes and saw his coffee mug was empty and was on the floor. He looked around and saw Jim opening the blinds and he turned a sign around to open. "Good morning Harold." Said Jim. "What do you do?" Asked Harold. "I am a baker, I bake a lot of treats for the people of Sky City." Said Jim. "Wow, that's cool." Said Harold. "Here, you need energy." Said Jim tossing a loaf of bread at Harold. "Thank you." Said Harold. "Here is a canteen of water, a knapsack, and some extra bread. Also a map of the city and a small pocket knife." Said Jim. "Thanks." Said Harold. "If you need anything, just come back to the bakery." Said Jim. "Thanks again." Said Harold walking out the door.
"Get your bread for sale! Treats! Sweets! and many more!" Yelled Jim as the streets started to crowd up. Harold passed by some guards. "Did you hear what happened last night?" Asked one guard. "What happened?" Asked another. "I heard a mysterious kid jumped through a window and the disappeared." Said another. "Yeah he ran from the police." Said the third. Harold walked up to them.
"Hello officer, what did the kid look like?" Asked Harold. "I dunno, lanky, tall, mop of brown hair, looked like he was wearing a lab coat." Said the first guard. "Okay, thank you." Said Harold. "You seen him around?" Asked the second guard. No, but he sounds familiar." Said Harold. "Okay well if you find anything tell someone." Said the first guard. "Will do." Said Harold walking away.
Aaron woke up to the sound of people walking around above him. He saw feet pass by and he slowly stuck his head out. He crawled back through the tunnels and saw a manhole cover above him.
