"One lap around the field. Go!" I commanded.
Cody retorted, "That's too easy."
I glared at him and he gulped. The team started running. I said one lap because I wanted to see who was the fastest and who was the slowest - so I know who to focus on. It was a colossal field so I expected them to be about ten minutes or less. I fetched a stop watch from coach before we started. I don't need paper for their times because - well you know - eidetic memory.
Chase came first, followed by Ethan and Justin came last. Justin was only behind by about three seconds. Cody came fifth.
"Cody, if it was so easy then why didn't you come first?" I asked, his face turned scarlet and he looked at the ground.
I gave the team a chance to drink some water. When they were done I continued, "Three laps. Go."
"Can't you do it with us?" Chase asked, a mischievous glint in his eyes. Well Chase - challenge accepted.
"Okay, I'll show you how it's done," I stated.
The team fell into a fit of 'oohs' and whistles. I saw Ethan grin because he knew I'd beat them by a mile.
I then started counting, "Three, two, one," and we all took off.
The team caught on that Chase wanted to race me. We were ahead of the team and I was ahead of Chase. We were on the last lap and I sprinted to our finishing point. I beat Chase by thirty seconds.
"Dude, you really shouldn't have challenged her," Ethan remarked to Chase.
"Whatever, I let her win," he commented - loud enough for me to hear.
My jaw dropped. There is no way in hell that he let me win. I'm the fastest sprinter in the school. How dare he say that he 'let me win'.
I took a swig of my water and challenged, "Chase - from here to the light pole."
"It's on," he accepted the challenge.
Ethan then started the countdown after we got into our positions, "Three, two, one."
Chase and I sprinted like a cheetah was chasing us. He was ahead of me because I wanted him to be - it's how you make your opponent think they're going to win. I was actually storing my energy - when we were a few meters away from the pole I sprinted. I reached the pole first. "You were saying?" I mockingly asked.
"How are you not panting!?" He asked, his tone incredulous.
"I'm used to it," I nonchalantly stated.
"Wanna race back?" I offered. He nodded and we sprinted. I obviously beat him by a mile.
"Chase, you lost three times," Cody stated.
"Shut up," Chase retorted.
"It was a good contest Chase," I told him, offering my hand to shake.
