"Why do you care so much? Why aren't you like the other guys?" I looked at him sniffling and wiping my tears on my shirt.
"I care because you're a really good person, Brooke. Good people don't deserve to get hurt." Jeff said looking at me. He looked at me and I looked at him. "I am not a good person, Jeff." I shook my head looking down. "I deserve to get hurt." I told him.
"Why can't you just let me care about you? Why is it so hard for you to let me in?" Jeff said shaking his head as he didn't understand. "If you knew what I did then you wouldn't care about me anymore." I frowned looking away and at the door. "I don't care what you did. I care about you so much, Brooke." Jeff mumbled as he hugged me.
"Well, I want you to stop caring." I said bluntly. "Why?" Jeff asked raising his voice some.
"Because, everyone gets hurt in the end! You don't deserve to be one of those people." I said running a hand through my hair. "You're already hurting me by shutting me out." Jeff said looking down pressing his lips together. I don't know how I noticed all of these little things he did. I really didn't care what he did.
"I don't mean to okay? It's just the way I am." I told him and hugged him. "You'll move on and find new friends. I'm not special." I explained.
"But you are special. You're unique. You're beautiful. You're honest. You're not afraid to be yourself." He said. I felt tears come to eyes again. "Just please stop caring about me." I said and put my face in my knees as I began to cry. "I'll stop caring when you give me a good reason to." Jeff shrugged.
"Because! I-I killed Hannah Baker."
