Author POV
Cloe sighed as she sat in class, even though it was the end of the year, some teacher still decided to torture their students one last time before graduation.
Honestly, the girl hoped to get distracted by her teacher's rambling but she couldn't follow his words, her mind was still filled with thoughts of her passed friend.
Suddenly the teacher stopped talking by hearing the typical noise of the school speakers, indicating that something was about to be announced.
The students listened attentively to silence, an announcement at the end of the year was rather unusual. They heard some random noises as if whoever was about to speak didn't plan it well.
"Dear students."
The class got even quieter upon hearing the principal's voice echo through the room.
"I am talking to you since it's a sad day for our school. Our student Jake Chen, many of you may have known him I'm sure, has passed away recently. He committed suicide and left a big hole in our school, in our football team but also in our hearts. We send our prayers and thoughts to his family and friends. We've decided to arrange a room, room 203, where you can remember him or write your last words into a book which will be presented at his funeral. Thank you for your attention."
During the announcement there was complete silence, it almost seemed like the whole school fell into a dead silence. Only after a few seconds after the end of the announcement, you could hear the first 'oh no's or 'the poor boy's.
Cloe looked around the classroom, most of the students were shocked or sad. It was a time in which she realized once again how popular Jake really was in school.
But still nobody knew him well enough to see his pain. Not even Cloe herself.
She had already known of his death, she'd seen it with her own eyes but now that it was announced to the whole school, it felt like comprehending his death all over again.
Like being stabbed for the second time, being slapped for the second time, drowning for the second time all over again.
"If you want to you may now go to room 203. The rest please read quietly in your books until the lesson ends."
Without realizing it, Cloe's feet brought her towards the door. When she exited the room and came back to her senses, she looked around, only to see that no one else decided to go except some boys who were heading into a completely other direction than the assigned room.
As if a lighting had hit her, the girl started running through the school halls, not really knowing where she was going. Eventually, she stopped behind some wall to collapse on the ground and hug her knees tightly.
"Why, why, why, why."
The girl was on the edge of a breakdown but then she suddenly heard approaching footsteps and got off the ground, not wanting to be seen by anyone in that state.
She was already on her way back to her classroom when she suddenly felt the urge to go see the memorial room. She wanted to know if someone really did come there and if so, who it was and which relationship they had with Jake.
When she arrived at the room she felt like crying all over again upon the sight that no one was in the room. However, a small smile crept onto her lips as she approached the memorial book in the room and saw how it was opened and some used pens were lying next to it.
Her eyes brightened up as she looked through the pages.
We'll miss you, bro. Best quarterback in the world.
