Safe Zone

PIERS' P.O.V.
"I can't believe out of all of the buildings around you chose the hospital."

"Yeah well I just wanted to kill something and everything else looked like there wasn't anything to kill."

"Wow, well I'm sure glad that you chose the hospital otherwise I probably would have died trying to get out of there, or died trying to not get infected by staying in that room."

"I'm glad I did too." Then I gave her a smile and she returned it.

"So are you excited to get to the safe zone to see your friends?"

"Yeah but I don't know if I can stay."

"What? Why not? It's safe there free of infection."

"Not if I'm there I have two of the most dangerous people after me and one of them is my father."

"How would they know that you were there?"

"There is a satellite right above the safe house. I would have to always stay under something or have a hat or a hood on because the track me by the satellites."

"Oh wow um well can you please try to stay indoors or something because you mean so much to your friends and if they get you back then maybe the place will brighten up a bit."

"Wait what do you mean by brighten up?"

"Well all of the people that were in your group haven't been the happiest people in the world."

"Who would?" She asks looking at me.

"You know what I mean." I say shoving her playfully, making her laugh.

"Okay, okay yeah I know what you mean. But seriously I don't know who would be happy in the middle of a zombie apocalypse."

"Well I am and you are too."

"I never said I was happy."

"Well you sure seem like you are."

"Yeah I might seem like it but I'm not I've lost to many people to be happy." When she says that I slam the breaks and get out of the car and she follows behind me then I look at her.

"Alice you know I've lost plenty of people too but I just try to look at the bright side of things and try to keep myself happy so that those around me can see how happy that they can be even in the middle of all this." She just looks down at her feet and then back up at me.

"Who did you lose?" I look at her and we make eye contact and I hesitate for a minute.

"I lost my mom, my dad, and I lost my sister."

"Piers I'm-" Before she can get another word out I cut her off.

"You didn't know." A tear falls down my face as I look down.

"How did you lose them?" I stay silent for a moment.

"Sorry I didn't mean to-"

"No its okay um I lost my mom first, she was so determined to get us to the safe zone and so was my father but when my mom and dad went to go make sure this house was safe to stay at my mom got attacked right when they walked in." She stayed silent but I still continued.

"A zombie bit her neck and she asked my dad to shoot her and he did. Then I lost my dad to a group of zombies ripping him apart and my sister shot him because I just couldn't bring myself to do it." My eyes are filled with tears now making me feel like an over emotional little girl but I keep going without looking at Alice.

"Last my sister, she uh, she pushed me out of the way from someone trying to shoot me and she took the bullet instead. I killed the guy that shot her and then I took her in my arms and she grabbed my hand and she gave me her necklace that I bought her when she was into motorcycles and she told me to give it to someone I saw as my sister, right before she died in my arms." After I finished I just broke down not able to help it.
