I tried to keep myself together when I saw the police cars surrounding the building. The men with their guns pointed towards us. I could've fought, I could've done something to stop him, but I just sat and watched as Jonathan greeted the police sheriff on the other side of the cars. He hid behind them, like a coward. His face was lined with regret, because as soon as he sheriff spoke, he couldn't ever return to what we ha. He couldn't run back over and embrace me, and apologize. He made his decision, and that decision as to hurt me even further.
"Doctor Jonathan T Brown, we appreciate the undercover work to retrieve the subjects during an escape attempt." A well built officer with facial hair spoke.
Jeremy let out very small "hm"
All I could muster, was questioning Jeremy "What?"
"Jonathan T brown is in the records, clearly not as an intern as he claimed, however I can read a background check filled with crime based on scamming. It appears that he used previously acquired skills to aid the police into catching us easily..." Jeremy stated matter-of-factly as he stared blankly at the sky. I assumed he had some sort of access to data from the courthouse.
I looked over at Jonathan, making eye contact. His eyes were brimming with tears. As soon as he noticed, he shook his head and looked back down. I couldn't tell if he was acting, or actually felt bad for doing this to me. He saw my weak mental state, my longing for some love, and he played with it. He was a puppeteer, and I was the marionette. We were like performers on a stage to these people, except I didn't see the audience.
Out of nowhere, pure rage filled my body, and the words I managed to spit at him were screams of pain, "Was that even real to you!? Did you feel absolutely nothing as you ripped my closest friendship apart!? Do you even feel bad for what you've just done!? I TRUSTED you! After five minutes, I TRUSTED you! With my life, and my relationship with Christopher, and my heart! Did you just see me as some pawn in chess game!? Was that it!? You're just the player using their pawns as expendables!?" I had so much more to say, but became choked up before I could say it. Saliva was filling my throat, and tear began streaming out of my blurred emerald eyes. I could taste the salty liquid as it slipped down to my lips."No...that wasn't it Shelby." Jonathan started.
"SAVE IT BLONDIE" I used Christopher's words, I could hear his pain through mine. My eyes wandered to the ground, and I uttered a sentence. "Jeremy, can you malfunction...on purpose?"
"It would have a high chance of you being injured, although yes, I believe it could work." He sounded unsure, despite how robotic he seemed a moment ago. Jeremy was truly an interesting thing.
"Do it." I mumbled.
"I could kill you-"
"DO IT!" I shrieked.
Out of the corner of my eye, I watched Jeremy stand still, just watching me, before bursting into movement towards the police officers. I noticed his glasses slip off his face, and even though my legs didn't work, I dove to grab them. Under thought, they probably really were the things that made him feel human, that made him feel normal. But as I dove, I heard gunshots ring out in the parking lot. And they weren't at the suddenly rabid robot. They were at me. I squeezed my eyes shut, waiting for pain.
Nothing.
I slowly opened them, a body was laying in front of me. It had dark brown and unbrushed hair.
"Chris..."
