When he let go of my hair, my head whacked into the bars, knocking me
unconscious.
I was sitting in my wheelchair in a grassy field I didn't recognize.
I didn't know where I was, but somehow my body just rolled forward as
if it knew where I was going. I went effortlessly down the hill, my
wheelchair not getting a single blade of grass in it. The sky was
clear and blue, the sun shining brightly in the distance. Flowers were
spread across the ground, growing luscious and beautiful in and
assortment of attractive colors. The grass that usually bothered me
was abundant and
alluring green. As I rode across the hilly but calming environment, I
felt the most at ease I ever had in my life. The atmosphere was so
dreamy, but it provoked wonderful feelings.
All of it stopped however, when I got to the bottom of the hill. A
single, barren tree stood tall and brooding. It cast shadows across
figures I couldn't make out. Curious, I headed down to check it out.
That decision was a mistake.
In the shadows of the dead tree, lay two corpses. One, a tall
creature with four tentacles with claws at the end coming out from her
back. She was face down to the ground, so I leaned down and turned her
over. Again, I made a mistake by doing so. Her dead eyes stared
blankly into space, her mouth slightly open and dripping with murky
green blood. Her chest had been torn open by who-knows-what, and it
was soaking with the crude green liquid. Below her decaying body was a
stain twice as big as her torso on the ground.
I shuddered off the terrible sight of the creature's carcass, and
went to inspect the slightly larger body a few feet away. Another
mistake was made. The shadowy figure was male, this one facing the
sky. His eye holes were black and hollow, a few tangled wires emerging
from them. Thick, black rimmed glasses were located next to his
lifeless head, they looked as if they would fit the robot perfectly.
Looking down to his torso, I noticed the android didn't have a shirt
on, but that wasn't an issue, he didn't have skin underneath. Just a
hollow opening in his chest which had even more ripped, tangled wires,
and broken code boards behind them. Just looking at how the wires
looked like they were previously connecting to something made the mood
feel like there were pieces missing.
Yes, there was definitely something not there, something important.
But as the land around me grew brighter and brighter, I lost grip of
what that something may be."Shelby...Shelby!" I was being shook awake by a pair of familiar
tentacles as my eyes opened.Mack was trying to wake me up, behind her stood the police officer
from the cop car that brought us here. The officer looked ridiculously
nervous. Trying to see why, I noticed the old scientist's, hopefully
asleep, body on the floor across the room."Good, you're awake. We must leave, right now" Mack insisted, the cop
just nodded."Wh-where's Jeremy?" I thought back to the dream I just woke up from.
The tree, their bodies."I'm taking care of fixing him" The officer, whom I remembered was
Christopher, chimed in."Yeah, yeah, fix the crazed robot once we get out of this place" Mack snapped.
She put me in my wheelchair, and we started for the door. It felt
both good and terrible to know that not only had they waited for me,
but another person was pulled into this mess. Why was Chris here? He
was with the police officers, he almost shot me! But when I turned
back to check on him, he was dutifully caring, the probably amazingly
heavy, Jeremy. I guess being nice in the cop car gained us an ally on
the inside.
