"And they were not commanded except to worship Allah , [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion."

[Qur'an]

Chapter 22:

An Escape

People are mean.

When you step into adulthood, this is the first lesson you learn. Not everyone's kind and compassionate, not everyone's nice. There are those souls out there who don't want to make your life easy. Say, in a situation where you wouldn't think twice before stopping your ride and helping a boy who may have fallen off his cycle, there are people who wouldn't do it, even when the child cries and begs them.

Everyone thinks they're right. Even if they hurt someone and break them, they still think they're right, their actions are justified. And since everyone has the 'I'm right' logic, no one wants to acknowledge their faults, correct their flaws.

All those Disney tales, happily ever afters, and a content princess living in a palace with a loving prince and servants to do every chore of hers - that's all that it is, mere stories. Tales spun out of someone's creative imagination, an escape from reality.

It's an escape, that dream land is an escape.

Because this world, this reality, it's brutal. People like to escape into an imaginary land to forget this reality. They like to think it exists, somewhere, someday, they'd live that life of a princess, so they escape into it until they are pulled back to reality. You can't escape for long, can you?

People are mean.

They will crush you and then make it their foundation to climb the ladder to reach the pinnacle.

And that's the reality.

Not everyone is willing to help, not everyone's kind, and the good that you do to others, not even crediting yourself for it because you think it's no big deal, when you go out, you will find people who wouldn't even have 'thought' of doing it, let alone do it.

You learn, when you step into adulthood, there's a lot you learn. And when you step out of the safe confines of your home, the protective confines of your University, in the harsh world, there's a lot you get to learn too.

You need to be independent, find your own happiness, and radiate love while others throw hate your way. If you're expecting people to return the good you do, you're going to wait forever. Just give, and expect nothing in return. Hope only from your Rabb.

That's the only way to live.

Because this world, otherwise, is not a very nice place to be in.

People are mean, you see.

Closing her diary, Anabya picked up her phone, now that only a few minutes of lunchtime remained.

She smiled reading the texts. It was nice to know that her classmates were as miserable as her.

It was a twisted logic, but it helped.

Internships suck! If a leech that sucks blood was ever compared with internship, the former would lose. Internships suck! - Varun

This is the first and hopefully last time in life, but I do agree with you. I think my dead body is going to return home by the time I finish this damned internship. - Ruby
