“So how’s your sister J.J.?” the blond hair guy asked Marley.

“Why do you want to know?” Marley said without looking up at the guys.

“I just want to know how she is. I had an awesome time with her last time.”

Marley looked up from her notebook and turned to him. “Awesome time? Steve, you invited my sister to a party without my consent. You got her drunk and tried to get her into bed with you. She is a minor, you dick. I don’t even want to know what would have happened if I didn’t show up.”

One of her friends told the guy off but he didn’t seem to take any notice of her. I slowly approached them.

“You are just jealous that your sister had a good time and you didn’t,” Steve said.

I expected Marley to say something back, but she didn’t. Instead she gathered up her things when the blue hair guy grabbed her notebook.

“What are you writing about?” he asked.

“Give that back, Dereck!” she squealed, reaching for her book, but he held it up in the air so she couldn’t reach it.

I clenched my fist together as I walked towards them. What made me angry is that none of Marley’s friends were doing anything to help her. They were just letting those guys bully her. Some friends they are.

Steve walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. He slipped a hand under her shirt and I could see the fear in her eyes.

“How about you come home with me later and we can have some fun together?” he said.

Marley tried to push him away from her, but he wouldn’t let go. The other guy started to read something out from her notebook. Marley begged him to stop reading. I didn’t paid attention to what he was reading out loud. Instead I walked straight over to Steve and pulled him off Marley, slamming him into the wall behind him.

“Don’t you dare touch her, you asshole,” I said to him.

“Oh yeah? What is it to you?”

Before I could say something, I heard someone say my name. I turned to face the person and standing there was the principal, Tera Thompson. Crap.

She asked me to follow her into her office. I let go of the guy and glanced over at Marley. She wouldn’t look at me. She just stared down at the floor. It was like she was a shame of me even though I just saved her from being bullied. I ignored the stares I was getting and followed Tera out of the cafeteria. We walked in silence towards her office. I kept playing a scenario inside my head and wondering what I was going to say and what she was going to do to me. I just hope she wasn’t going to fire me. Chief Parker would kill me if I do. How will I be able to protect Marley if I get fired?

Tera closed the office door once I stepped in, telling me to take a seat. I took a seat in front of her desk, trying not to think about the worse. She can’t fire me, can she?

“Do you want to tell me what happened in the cafeteria and why you had a student pressed up against a wall?” she asked as she sat down.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to do that,” I told her. “I just saw that guy harassing Marley Riley and I went to stop him.”

“Wait. How do you know one of the students’ by their full name? It’s your first day here.”

“I know Marley. She is living with me.”

“Living with you?”

“Yeah, she is my wife’s cousin.” I hated lying, but as part of my job, I have to lie so I don’t reveal personal details.
