The moment I saw the weapon held to Marley’s head, I immediately had the flashback of when I watched my father get shot. I could see him right before my eyes as his body tumble to the ground and his blood spilling out of him. It wasn’t like I wanted to picture this in my head, but I couldn’t help to picture Marley being in my dad’s position. No, I can’t let Nathaniel do this again.
“Does this look familiar to you, Noah, even though last time I wasn’t holding a gun to Dad’s head?” my brother asked me.
Marley stared at me with fear in her eyes as they pleaded with me to help her. I took my eyes off for a moment to glance down at J.J. to make sure she was alright. She lay still with her hand resting on her shoulder. I knew that if she wasn’t injured, she would have rushed over to her sister even if Nathaniel was threatening to shoot Marley.
“Let her go, Nathaniel,” I demanded. “I’m not letting you repeat what you did to Dad.”
He laughed. “It doesn’t even matter because I’m going to kill you both. I might even kill Marley’s sister, as well as Eric.” He gave me a wricked smile. “What would you do if I was to touch Chloe?”
I scrunched my fist into a ball with anger when he mentioned Chloe. “Don’t you dare lay one finger on her.”
“Oh so you care about Chloe now? That’s not what I saw last night when you were alone with Marley.”
“What happened last night?” J.J. asked as she slowly sat up.
“Did your sister tell you? She screwed Noah.”
J.J. turned to me. “What?”
I felt sick. I didn’t want J.J. to know what happened between Marley and me. She would never approve. How could I explain to J.J. what I did without her trying to kill me?
“I’m so sorry, J.J. I-I know it was wrong, but I couldn’t help it,” I told her.
I could see it that J.J. wanted to kill me, but right now she knew it wasn’t a good time to do it.
“So, Noah, who do you really love?” my brother asked me.
I stood there staring at Marley as she pleaded me with her eyes to help her. To tell you the truth I didn’t even know exactly what my answer was. I didn’t know what I really thought of either of the girls. But I cared about the both of them.
I stepped forward. “Let her go, you bastard.”
He held Marley tighter. “Do you want me to pull the trigger? I will if you take another step.”
“Please just let me go,” Marley begged.
“Shut up!” he says angrily.
I knew I couldn’t get her just by asking. And I can’t get any closer either. Where’s Chloe when I’m in desperate need?
“What do you want, Nathaniel? You know it’s all going to end so just give it up.”
He laughed. “Give up? I don’t think so. I’m going to slaughter Marley right here in front of you.”
“No!” J.J. screamed.
She stood up and ran to Nathaniel. Still holding onto Marley, he pointed it at J.J. She didn’t even seem to care that he was pointing a weapon at her. I aimed my own at him, but I couldn’t pull the trigger. J.J. was in the way. I yelled at her to move out of the way so I could blow my brother’s brains out.
J.J. ignored me. I’m not exactly what she was going to do, but I think she was trying to grab the gun. As soon as she tried to grab it, Nathaniel wracked her in the head with the weapon. Marley screamed as J.J. fell to the ground, lying there unconscious.
