My thoughts of how I could lose my job or how pissed Chloe would be once she finds out what I was doing all disappeared as I laid Marley on my bed, giving her all the pleasure that I could give her. I knew someday I was going to regret it, but right now I didn’t care. I watched her sleep, wondering what she could be dreaming about. I don’t even know how long I was staring at her. She was just so beautiful that I didn’t want to turn my eyes away from her.
But I had to. I heard something coming from outside. I sat up in my bed, wondering if I will hear it again. I did and sounded like someone was just outside my window. I climbed out of bed and searched around for my boxers. I found them at the foot of my bed and put them out before walking out of the room. I walked into the living room to see that Eric and J.J. were no longer on the couch. Hopefully they didn’t hear Marley and me.
I grabbed my gun and then headed to the backyard, switching on the back porch light. I step outside. I looked around but I couldn’t see anyone. Maybe I’m just imagining things or maybe it was an animal running around.
“Hello?” I called out. “Is there anyone out there?”
No one answered. I stepped onto the grass and look around. I stopped when I heard footsteps coming from behind me. Trying my best not to panic, I turned to see a dark figure behind me. Seeing the figure made my heart jump out of me.
I aimed the gun at the person and was about to pull the trigger when the person spoke.
“Noah, cool it. It’s just me, Kale.”
I put my gun down and sighed with relieve. “Kale, what the hell are you doing here?”
“Remember that I’m watching your house. I was just sitting in my car when I saw someone enter your yard. I went to check but I can’t see anyone.”
“Do you think it’s him?”
“It might be. You know what, I’m going to call Chief. I think you and Marley need to be relocated. He is after you both.”
I turned to head inside with Kale behind me. “Yeah, well I will make sure he is dead before he gets to us.”
“Really, Noah? He has attempted to kill you both.”
I headed into the kitchen, asking Kale if he wanted anything to drink. He answered no. We sat down at the table.
I thought about what Kale was saying about relocating us. As I thought about it, I thought why? I mean, he is after us. If we get relocated then we will never be able to find out who the killer is. It’s like Marley and I are bait, but we are all in the wrong place at the wrong time, or he strikes without us knowing. We need to get ahead of him so he is captured.
“No, it’s going to be too much if you relocate us,” I told him. “Besides, we might not be able to find him again.”
“I’m sure we will.”
“Maybe, maybe not.”
“We can discuss this with Chief Parker tomorrow.”
I shook my head. “No. I think it’s best we stay here. It will be too much for her.”
“Too much? Noah, both of your lives are at risk.”
“I don’t care about my life. All I care about is Marley.”
Kale stared at me. “You aren’t sleeping with her, are you?”
I pretended to be shock. “No way!”
I wasn’t sure if Kale brought my lie. He didn’t say anything, but I think he was suspicious. He said goodnight to me and left. I headed back to my room, still thinking about what Kale had said. I still wasn’t sure if I wanted to be relocated, but then again it wasn’t really my choice. It’s all up to Chief Parker what he wants to do.
