Chapter 17

A Blast From The Past

"What? No hugs for your best friend?" His voice was a breath of confidence as he leant against the frame of the door. The sunlight was beaming down on him so that I had to rub my eyes just to check that it was him standing there, not even a meter away. But after the fifth time I’d repeated the same action I was certain that it wasn’t a hallucination. I didn’t know whether to smile or burst into tears.

It seemed like an eternity before I managed to somehow form words into sentences, "Didn't you get the memo? I upgraded for a Cali surf boy." His familiar smile spread across his face, reminding me of the many times he'd used it to charm his way through any situation. We held each others gaze for who knows how long, completely oblivious to the fact that Ash was staring between us with his intruding curiosity.

"Is he here?" I asked, my voice barely audible. It was best not to build my hopes to high, if I did I would only be crushed by the outcome. It was a miracle that I hadn't broken down already by seeing Justin’s face.

"By he I hope you mean me," he said stepping in front of Justin who was smiling so wide it looked almost painful. Before he could say anything else I launched myself at him making the duffle bags in his hands drop to the floor with a loud thud. My grip on him would have almost been deadly if it weren't for the fact that he was built like a brick wall.

It was a perfectly content moment until Ash’s obnoxious voice interrupted, "Who the hell is the curly head and the hulk?"

Releasing him, he smiled warmly at me before turning to face Ash, "Nice to meet you, you can call me the Hulk but I usually go by Blake Brown."

"This is Ash, it’s not so nice to meet him as you might think." I explained.

"Ah. So you're the one that has chosen Brooklyn here to be your sworn enemy," Justin chuckled swinging his arm across my shoulders, "Bad choice dude. This one here is known for obliterating anything in her path. Isn't that right sista B?"

I smirked, "Just wait until I tell you what I have in store."

"For your information, people would kill for my curls." Justin added as I led them into the game room away from Ash and his gawking. I was holding onto their arms as if my life depended on it, I guess some part of me was afraid that if I were to let go they would just be gone. And even Brooklyn Matthews could not handle losing her family again. I was talking at a 100 miles per second firing questions at them not waiting to listen to their answers. I didn't stop until I realized we were standing in the game room with six pairs of curious eyes trained on us.

"Guys these are my-"

"-friends" Chelsea finished, hopping out of her seat.

Reaching out her hand she said, "Most people call me Chels, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you're not from around here. You don't really have that beach vibe, you know with all that leather going on. So, you're from New York, right? You have more of that rugged look, not that its a bad thing." She finished with a dazzling smile, showing her pearly whites.

The two stared back at her presumably surprised by her talkativeness, if a girl like Chelsea had approached me in Brooklyn I would have sent her on the highway with no way back. I didn't quite know why I hadn't done the same to Chelsea, there was something about her that seemed too genuine to ignore.

"This is Justin and Blake." I introduced smiling over at them. Everyone but Ryder greeted them warmly, I looked over at him studying his undecided expression. Before I could ask him what was going on with him he nodded to himself, getting up from his sit.
