Chapter Nineteen
My Achy Breaky Heart
I woke up early the next morning and quickly got dressed in my jeans and a T-shirt. The only thing that kept me from going back to sleep was the thought of being on that plane with Blake and Justin. I smirked as I looked at myself in the mirror. Beth wasn’t going to know what hit her.
The other boys were still getting ready to go to school and the usual noise that I’d grown used to filled the house. I ate breakfast in the kitchen with everyone else as I normally did. It almost felt the same as every morning, only I knew it was different. If all went right this would be my last morning in the Parker house. I was too consumed in my thoughts to realize the kitchen had gone quiet. I glanced up from my bowl noticing that all eyes were on me.
“What?” I asked.
“I said we’re leaving in a minute, make sure you come back straight after you’ve gotten your stuff from school.” Beth said.
“Right, sure.” I said. “Well, I better get going. Blake and Justin want to bring me early so they have enough time to do some last minute packing.” I said.
“What? They’re leaving already?” Charlie asked.
“Yeah, it seems they’ve over stayed their welcome.” I said shooting Beth a look. I met Blake and Justin upstairs who came out of their rooms fully dressed and ready to go.
“All set?” Blake asked.
“Yup, just need to get the money.” I smiled before hurrying to my room. I moved the covers out of the way, reaching for the box hidden underneath the bed. The box was full of a few photographs of Blake, Justin and I, one of my brother and I and many more that were put away for safe keeping. My hands grasped the cardboard as I dragged it out. Pushing the lid away, my heart seemed to slow down to an almost stop. Thud...thud...thud. I could barely breath. I tore at the box, emptying the entire contents on the bed. I rifled through it with my shaking hands. It wasn’t possible. The money was gone.
Ash’s name escaped my lips without a second thought. My voice echoed throughout the house and soon he strolled in with an arrogant smirk on his face.
“Where is it?” I demanded.
“Where’s what, doll?” He replied smoothly, leaning against the door frame.
“Don’t mess with me Parker, give me the money or I swear I will rip you to shreds.” I threatened. My sight was blind with rage. How could he do this? I knew he was low but to rip my only chance of getting back home away from me was cruel. He raised his hands in defense, taking cautious steps back. Before he could make a run for it I used my body weight to slam him against the wall and hold him by his shirt.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He breathed heavily.
I shook my head violently, slamming him back against the wall. “Don’t lie to me!”
Blake and Justin rushed into the room to see what the loud commotion was about. Blake easily removed me from Ash who backed quickly away.
“What did we miss?” Justin asked.
“She’s a crazy woman, she’s accusing me of taking her money!” He exclaimed, flapping his arms about. Justin told him to get out of the room and he did as he was told.
“It’s gone, the money’s gone.” I whispered, staring at the wall. “I’m never going home, am I? I’m going to be stuck here forever.” I said, leaning on Blake. I fit my face into the crook of his neck as he slid us down so we were sat on the floor. Justin slid down on the other side of me, embracing me with his arms.
