Chapter Twenty-Five
A girl worth loving.
The words echoed in the silent room. Tyler had long gone, leaving me shocked as he flushed and hurried out of the room. Not before walking straight into the door frame of course. I hadn’t even laughed as he groaned out in pain and embarrassment. That’s how shocked I was.
A girl worth loving.
A stinging sensation in my hand caused me too look down at my balled up fists. I was so angry, yet I had no plausible reason to be. I was furious with Tyler. He couldn’t just come out with things like that out of nowhere throwing me off guard, he wasn’t allowed to. Surely, there was some sort of friendship code that ruled it out. I flexed my fingers, showing the red marks my nails had caused.
A girl worth loving.
I groaned in frustration. Not only was I angry, I was beyond confused. What the hell had he meant by that? A girl worth loving? If only he knew what I’d done in the past and what I was capable of. Surely then he wouldn’t be saying things like that.
“Brooklyn! Your boyfriend is here!” Logan called up the stairs. I shook my head, looking at the clock. Had I really been standing here that long? I grabbed everything I needed, happy to get out of the house to be able to clear my head of these thought.
Ryder stood awkwardly at the front door dressed in a polo and chinos. The Parker boys stood in front of him, tension thick in the air. Logan wore a mocking grin, Ash didn’t bother to hide his clear hatred.
“See you guys later.” I called behind me as I dragged Ryder by his arm and out the door.
“Nice to see you too.” He said, smiling. I smiled, stopping briefly to peck him on the lips.
“You look nice by the way.” He complimented.
“I know.” I smirked. He chuckled, throwing an arm over my shoulder as we made our way towards his flash car. Once we were both buckled we rode the short journey to the carnival. The loud music suddenly left us in the silence of the car when Ryder cut off the engine. He looked as if though he was going to say something when there was a loud knock on the window. Lacey stood with an excited grin plastered on her face. Behind her was Derek, Cole, Haley, Chelsea and too my surprise Becca clinging onto a guy I’d never seen before. She smirked as Ryder stepped out of the car. When I slammed the car door her eyes darted to mine, shock evident in them.
“What are you doing here?” She sneered.
“I was invited, problem?” I asked, quirking an eyebrow. I stood closely next to Ryder who turned to Lacey for an explanation.
“She just turned up, I don’t even know how she found out we were coming.” Lacey said low enough so only we could hear.
“Get rid of her.” Ryder groaned.
“Just leave her, I’m sure she’ll get bored quickly and run off.” Derek interrupted. Ryder reluctantly nodded, looking over at his ex-best friend. He sighed, grabbing my hand. I squeezed it lightly earning a grateful smile from Ryder.
“Don’t let her ruin our night, let’s just have fun.” I said.
“That I can certainly do,” He said, before picking me up and throwing me over his shoulder.
“Ryder!” I screamed, pounding his back. He chuckled, placing me back on the ground once we reached the entrance. When we got past the ticket collector, I stopped in my tracks looking around in awe. Night had already fallen, the bright lights illuminated the sky almost blinding anyone who looked at them. Sounds filled the air all around me; crying, screaming, laughter, the dinging of machines as people won. Mothers around me begun to usher their children away from the rides as the teenagers began to fill the fairground.
