Chapter Eleven
Shopping, salons and secrets.
Being grounded was unavailing. Unavailing; adjective: achieving little or nothing; ineffective.
In the end, nothing would come of it for me, Beth, or anyone else in that matter. If she were hoping the outcome of being grounded would bring hugs, emotions and tears. She was utterly and pathetically wrong. Although, it did accomplish one thing. I did dislike her more than before. Being grounded would have been a lot easier if, one; I did not have a car to drop me off and pick me up from and to school every day, two; if I did not have Beth checking up on me every single hour of every single day, three; if a tree had been conveniently been placed outside my window. However, with no luck in that department I was stuck cooped up in my room and I wasn’t about to fall two stories to my death. Apparently, Mr and Mrs Parker liked to enforce a lot more discipline than back in New York. I couldn’t use my phone watch TV or talk to Ryder. Hell, I couldn’t even listen to the radio in the car. I was on the verge of a serious meltdown and Beth had made no effort to make it clear as to when my torture would be over. Sure, it had only been two days but with the Parkers it felt more like two months.
It was Friday afternoon and instead of going straight to the mall, I headed out to the front of the school to be driven home as usual. Luckily for me, the Parker Boys usually rode in a different car. So you can imagine my surprise as I opened the sleek door to the back of the car to see two irked and three amused Parker brothers. I groaned in annoyance, throwing my head back and there I was thinking my exhausting day couldn’t have got any worse.
“Fabulous.” I muttered sarcastically sliding in between Charlie and the door. Ash and Tristan grunted in response as Charlie, Max and Logan quietly sniggering. It seemed they had the case of the ‘inappropriate timing’ giggles.
“Lighten up! We’re in the same car, nothing is going to come crashing and burning to the ground.” Max said, sharing a high five with Logan for no apparent reason.
“I will not lighten up, don’t tell me what to do!” Ash sneered, Max held his hands up in defense. The car fell into an awkward silence, that was almost suffocating.
“Any plans for your evenings?” I said.
“You know, the usual. I’ve got myself a hot date with Adella.” Logan said smiling smugly, no doubt proud of himself.
“Dude, I thought it was with Callie?” Max said. Logan dropped his smugness, to think deeply. I saw the light bulb in his head turn on as he nodded in agreement.
“So, you’re what they call a player?” I said.
“No, sweetheart. I am what they call a heartthrob.” He smirked.
“I see modesty is one of your finest qualities.” I laughed sarcastically. Tristan and Ash huffed, muttering incomprehensible words.
“Sorry, what was that?” I said loudly. I lifted my eyes to meet Ash’s glare.
