Chapter Twenty One
I wasn’t surprised in the least when I was woken up from my slumber the next morning along with the rest of the Parker household by Beth’s screams of fury. I shuffled out of my bed and sluggishly made my way into the hallway almost bumping into Charlie in the process. To say it nicely, I’d never seen the golden boy look so...bad. He reeked of alcohol from the previous night and the stench of puke wafted from him as well. I scrunched up my nose, he groaned looking ready to bawl his eyes out. I watched as the rest of the boys filed out of their rooms and slowly made their way down the stairs. Surprisingly and unfortunately no one tripped going down the stairs in their most likely still drunken and tired daze. When Beth came into view each boy seemed to waken up as their eyes went wide and they began to realize what was happening. Their eyes scanned warily over the state of the house, almost wishing that it would suddenly disappear. What a sight it was. Red solo cups were strewn practically everywhere, questionable stains marked the carpets, underwear was draped over the lights, drink bottles, cans and other rubbish littered the floors and an expensive looking vase was shattered on the marble foyer floor. My eyes finally landed on Beth. Her usual dazzling smile and model looks were covered by an intense anger in her eyes and her face was the color of a tomato, I wanted to remind her to breath but didn’t move my mouth in fear of being screamed to death. Not what I really wanted at this time in the morning, which was five a.m if you were wondering. Richard stood next to her with a supportive arm on her shoulder, looking like he wanted to laugh and cry at the same time. The boys stood in a line and I followed suit, it seemed that this was a regular occurrence in the Parker residence. When seeing we were short one man her head snapped to the stairs and she screamed at the top of her lungs.
“Ash Parker get your butt down here right this second!”
The boys all held their heads in pain and I winced at how they must be feeling. It was probably like a million explosions were going off inside their skulls. I couldn’t help but smirk to myself. After my little chat with Ash I’d sobered up and gone to the comfort of my room. Seconds later there was a shuffling from above, a groan of annoyance and stomping foots.
“What reason could you possibly have for waking me up at this forsaken hour of the morning?” Ash said, shielding his eyes from the light that flooded the room. Beth cleared her throat reminding Ash of the situation he was in, warily he removed his arm to reveal his guilty eyes.
“Get in line!” Beth ordered sounding like a drill sergeant. He quickly listened taking his place next to me. I wanted to laugh at the scene, big bad Ash was scared of his mother. In fact all the Parker boys were and rightly so. Beth was a monster when she was angry. We shared a mutual look that for once was not full of hatred and disgust. Of course, that was about to change when he realized what I’d gotten him into.
She paced back and forth down the line we’d formed stopping briefly in front of one of the boys at different times. They all shuffled nervously on the spot under her intense gaze. It was clear what she was trying to do. Using her silence and her intimidation to get one of them to spill. It was quite genius and humorous if I do say so myself. The only sound that filled the room was the sound of her heels clacking against the floor. She stopped in front of me next, turning to me and peering into my eyes. I crossed my arms defiantly, letting a smirk cover my lips. She squinted suspiciously at me before moving on to Ash who hopped from one foot to the other. He cleared his throat as she inspected him. His eyes darted around the room looking for anything to latch on to.
“Was it you, Ash Parker?” She asked leaning in closer.
He shook his head ferociously, “No, ma’am.” I rose my eyebrow at him, ma’am? He shrugged, his face contorted in a state of fear and helplessness. Oh, this was priceless.
