Chapter Seven
The New and The Old
I threw my books into my locker and shut it with force making it shake. I leant my head against the cool surface, relishing in the releif it gave me.
“What’s got you all fired up?” Some guy at the next locker asked making me jump in shock.
“More like who. I just had double history with Mr Sullivan and then algebra with Miss Clark” I complained, shuddering at the mere memory.
“Ouch that’s harsh,” he winced just at the thought of it.
“I know I’m planning something extremely horrible for that woman.”
“Just hope that you don’t have Coach Brown for PE his lessons are torture. If you're late he makes you run laps until you’re about ready to pass out.” The way he said it made me think that it'd happened to him more than a few times.
“Let me check my schedule,” I said getting it out of my locker. I scanned over it and of course for my last two lessons my teacher was Coach Brown.
“Your schedule sucks but I’m in your PE lesson so at least I’ll be there to entertain you. Maybe you’ll get on his good side.”
“I’m never on anyones good side,” I joked making him smile. At first I hadn't takne much notice of his appearance but as I do I can’t deny that he’s hit the jackpot of good genes. The first thing that captivated me were his eyes. To say that they were blue didn't seem like enough to justify them. It was like he'd stolen the sky and I was looking up at a cloudless day. The mischief they held shone brightly in them and I had to drag my own eyes away to take a glimpse at the rest of his face. His feather-like brown, almost black hair was a tousaled mess suggesting that he hadn't made an effort this morning when rolling out of bed, his untucked shirt and loose tie only added to the theory. My eyes quickly grazed over his lips which were thin and pale against his naturally tan skin. His defined jaw contributed to his good looks as did his obviously lean body. I didn't know it was possible for someone to try so little and yet come out looking like he did. By the arragont smirk on his lips it was clear the attention of girls was something he was not shy of.
“Anyway I gotta run but we should hang outside some time?" He suggested. I was about to decline when he added, “We can talk about how we’re going to get Miss Clark back.” He smirked. Maybe, just maybe, he was more like me than I'd assumed.
“I’ll think about it,” I told him smiling slightly.
“Great, see you later. Oh wait I didn’t catch your name”
“Brooklyn Matthews."
“Well then Brooklyn Matthews I, Ryder Petersen hope to see you at lunch.”
I decided to go to the office to get my PE uniform which consisted of a thin white t-shirt, a pair of blue short that read 'Go Tigers!' on the back and white plimpsoles. It was nothing fancy compared to the uniform.
Maybe I should go hang out some time with Ryder, I deliberated as I walked the corridors. I shook my head to myself, it’s not like I could be friends with him anyway with all that’d happened in the past. If he ever found out how screwed up I was he’d no doubt end up screaming and running in the opposite direction. I would only be living in California temporarily so by the time I befriended him it would be time for me to go back to New York.
I was in such a deep thought that I wasn’t looking where I was going and crashed into someone making them drop their books.
“I’m so sorry, I- uh- didn’t mean to.” The boy in front of me panicked, “Please don’t tell the principal or the teachers I swear I didn’t mean to. I’ll make it up to you I’ll do all your homework and carry your books and-” He rambled, looking from side to side.
