Chapter Ten

Idiots, bitches and pranks. Oh my!

The crowd parted as we made our way through the corridors. It wasn’t a feeling I was familiar with. Sure, I was used to people crossing the road in fear. What can I say? I had a reputation back at home but this was different. People were parting like we were part of the royal family. All eyes had been solely focused on Ryder and I since the incident this morning. Wherever, I went I could feel their burning stares boring holes into my back. Questions had been fired at me left, right and centre all day long.

The trip to the principal’s office had been incredibly awkward and filled with many warnings to keep our hands to ourselves. To say the least it was close to impossible to stop the laughter escaping our lips. At one point Ryder had let a small chuckle go resulting in a stern look and a disapproving comment. Luckily for us we only recieved a warning meaning he wouldn’t call our parents, or guardians in my case.

As we made our way through the cafeteria, Ryder’s arm was slung lazily over my shoulder.  A smirk was evident on his face, hearing the whispers of our peers. Taking a seat in the middle of the right side of the room, I watched as people began to file in. Soon, the room was bustling and the table was filled with unfamiliar faces.

“Everyone this is Brooklyn, my girlfriend,” he smiled down at me. There were a choruses of ‘hello’s’ and ‘hey’s’. As lunch went by I learnt everything I needed to know about everyone.

Ryder had five main friends. There was Cole; he had been Ryder’s best friend since Kindergarden. Cole and Ryder were very close, practically brothers as far as I could tell. Then there was Derek; he had been Ryder’s friend since the seventh grade. The story of their friendship went like this: There was once a girl with flowing blonde hair, the prettiest girl in the grade. She had tons of seventh graders lining up to be her friend, including Derek and Ryder. They fought for her love. Until one day, the 'cow' tragically chose Bobby Dylan the richest guy in middle school as Derek put it. Somehow, Derek and Ryder had became great friends after their epic love tragedy. After Derek there was Lacey. Lacey was beautiful, to say the least. She had shining copper hair that flew down past her shoulders in ringlets that framed her pale face and the most exquisite brown eyes that held flecks of gold. Lacey was totally and utterly head over heels in love with Derek and he for her. Apparently, they had been going strong and steady for two years and still had the purest love you could ever imagine. From the stories that were shared Lacey seemed down to Earth and friendly enough but with everyone around I hadn’t the chance to start a proper conversation.

According to Ryder, where Lacey went Haley followed. Haley was undoubtedly the most irritating person alive. Lacey and Haley were best friends but I could not tell what the had in common. Lacey was sweet, Haley seemed bitter. Lacey was gorgeous, Haley was smothered in about ten pounds of foundation, bronzer and mascara. Lacey was bearable, Haley was not. There were many occasions where I found myself wanting to smack her across her smug face and I didn’t seem to be the only one. A few times I even caught Lacey getting irked but friends were friends. You put up with them even with their many, many faults, right? Haley had even attempted to flirt with Ryder. It wasn’t that I cared, it was the fact that she thought I was his girlfriend yet still tried to make a move on him. It just proved to everyone what kind of person she was.  Last but not least, there was Becca who I hadn’t yet had the pleasure to meet until she strutted into the cafeteria in her designer boots with Chelsea at her side.
