Song Selection: School by Nirvana
I shut my locker, enjoying the light weight of my backpack as I continued through the familiar school. The quad was full, enough for seats to already be taken as the bell would be ringing soon. I looked around in a daze to soon find Anna sitting by one of the planters with our other friend, Ryder. The two of them had coffees in their hands joyously and I smiled graciously as Anna handed me one as well. "Is it just me or do you guys wish this was just senior year already?" Ryder mentioned, her sunglasses blocking any emotion from being shown this early in the morning.
"And start filling out college applications? No thanks," Anna mentioned as I took a seat beside her, "Although a cut on the numerous amount of tests we have to take this year would be lovely."
I decided to take the time to check if I had everything again, seeing the stack of summer homework and such still in my bag. "And this will be the only time you worry about having your work all year; I predict it," Ryder said and I rolled my eyes, shutting my backpack.
"Well you're not wrong there, but I also had to make sure my journal was in-" I was interrupted by the bell suddenly ringing and I chuckled, standing up with the two of them, "was in there. And it is, so I should be set all day." The three of us eventually branched away from each other as Anna went to the L-Building for Spanish, Ryder to the portables for Algebra 2, and myself towards the M- Building for Anatomy/Physiology.
Surprisingly enough, the class syllabus the teacher, Ms. Verellen, would pass out to us made the class look easier than I expected. Then again, I was practically forced to take this class by my counselor because I refused to take an AP Science course. I looked down at my schedule, waiting for 4th period with Anna, 5th period with Ryder, and being TA to my former English teacher, Mrs. Eastwood.
But, of course, I had to dread the small talks of Statistics and US History, already being told in history that we would be having a Unit Exam in two weeks? Like any of that made sense. Once out of a 3rd period filled with notes, Anna waited outside my door and grinned over to me. "God save the Queen," I told her and she chuckled, walking beside me, "I'm seriously going to be looking forward to this class for the rest of the year at this point. I have no one to talk to in anything else."
She smirked and shrugged her shoulders. "Bet that won't be the only reason you look forward to this class. I know it won't be for me," She said and I rolled my eyes, walking ahead of her to open the doors. There was no teacher in sight, yet the class knew to seat themselves as normal. I looked around at the organized classroom, finding the decor to be aesthetically pleasing as opposed to every teacher here on campus. Then there stood the tree outside that faced a side of the quad, the leaves beginning to turn yellow on its branches to indicate the change of seasons.
The seats in the middle of the class were already filled, so Anna and I settled for the seats at the edge in the front. I looked up to the board, reading for us to take out our copies of Frankenstein and immediately did so. Anna was frantic next to me, waiting for this Mr. Healy to show up along with every other girl. The 2 minute bell had soon passed and he was no where in sight, the class loud with the growing chatter.
"I mean, he's only 28 years old? That's only a 12 year difference," Someone was whispering to her friend behind me.
"Doesn't mean you're gonna get any Julia, relax. Plus he's a teacher and way out of anyone's league here. I heard he has really high standards anyways," Her friend told her, making me laugh under my breath. The door opened suddenly, causing heads to turn, including mine, to the infamous Mr. Healy.
His curls bounced with his strides as he held onto his blazer and his glasses seemed to reflect the partial sunlight from the windows that were uncovered in his classroom. I paid attention to him, my heart dropping to the pit of my stomach when I remembered those deep, dark eyes.
