"Found you." a voice said while grabbing my shoulders.

my eyes widened and i was turned around.

upon seeing who it was my heart picked up speed.

mother.

"So tell me why the hell haven't you gotten all the supplies, brat." she seethed.

earlier today, she told me to get apples.

but the store man wouldn't sell the fruit to me, despite having enough.

"You stole the money?! How dare you!"

no mother.

the money was on the counter.

i kept gesturing to it, but your dull eyes didn't budge.

i wonder why you kept on?

"You think I can afford this? Huh?!" she said, latching onto my wrist and dragging me down to the basement.

holding my wrist so tightly, the idea of it snapping crossed my mind. you continued stringing me along, but was it wrong? was it wrong that even in this moment, i felt a tinge if happiness in my chest at you touching me, mother?

though it left as soon as it came.

because if you had pulled me any faster,

then maybe i wouldn't have seen a basket of ripe, red apples sitting at the door.
