3RD PERSON POV:
it was as if adrenaline replaced all the blood in yoona's body. fear drove her legs in the opposite direction, and the reality of the situation helped her never look back.
after what felt like ages, she finally made it near the entrance of the village, seeing taehyung and jimin waiting.
not even attempting to slow down, she hurtled full speed at the boy and crashed into his arms.
"yoona? what's going on! where did you go this morning?!" he asked, a worried tone evident in his voice. jimin circled around her feet before pawing at her calf.
yoona took a few minutes to respond, trying to catch her breath first.
her chest burned, and her mouth tasted like blood. grasping onto taehyung's shirt, she leaned onto his shoulder and smiled.
the fact that her lungs were in this much pain,
the fact that her hands still shook when she recalled what did to her aunt,
the fact that she was in taehyung's arms,
showed her that this was all really happening.
"i went out for a walk." she nervously smiled, once she caught her breath.
"for the entire day?!" he countered, and sighed when yoona gave him an apologetic smile.
"don't do this to me again, you gave me a heart attack!" taehyung whined, running a hand through his hair. giving yoona one last squeeze, he let her go.
"here." taehyung said while holding something out to her.
yoona took the wrapped object and peeled away the white cloth.
underneath it was a beautiful white mask, decorated with crystal blue butterflies.
looking back up at taehyung in awe, she was at a loss.
"it's beautiful."
"isn't it! i saved up a whole bunch for today, and these masks are only the beginning!" he gushed, pulling out a white mask of his own. dangling beside it was a blue whale charm.
"we're gonna have the time of our lives at this masked festival."
jimin circled around the two and barked in excitement, proudly showing off the red ribbon tied at his paw.
going behind yoona, taehyung took her mask and tied it on for her. she grew dizzy at his soft touch and was suddenly extremely thankful for the mask, since it covered up her growing blush.
"you know, i still think your eyes are really pretty." taehyung whispered, smiling shyly to himself and lacing yoona's hand with his.
feeling as if her heart was about to burst, she felt that blush creep onto her ears and neck. taehyung chuckled at this, and raised their hands.
"let's go!" he exclaimed, running towards the festival while pulling yoona with him.
her heart skipped too many beats as the only thing she paid attention to, not the bright lights, new delicious smells, and crowds of people, was him.
looking back, taehyung smiled at her as they entered the festival's gate.
and once she saw that nobody recognized her,
once she noticed the people who scorned her before were now smiling at her,
one she realized that she could finally act like a normal kid,
yoona couldn't help but smile back.
