I left the asylum with an enormous hole in my chest. It hurt to leave him behind in that godforsaken place. I felt like I was abandoning him for what must have been the billionth time in a row. Dylan's story had made me see a lot of things a whole lot clearer. I knew now that he was honest about Tyler being a lier. He wouldn't have poured his heart out like that just to tell one stupid lie. I knew he was being honest. But then why did Tyler provoke him? Why did he say all those nasty things? And then another thing: why had Alex broken his promise towards me? He had sworn he would never talk to Dylan about Holland, let alone tell him that he got that information from me. I needed to sort these things out. I needed to speak with Alex.

I found myself standing in front of the door of his apartment an hour after I had left the asylum. So many questions were going on inside my head. The door opened with a soft creak and a head with sleepy eyes popped through.

"Jessie?" He said, half yawning. Angrily I pushed myself through the door. I was pissed off.

"What the hell Alex?!" I shouted. "Do you have any idea what you and that fucking big mouth of yours have done?!" He looked at me rather confused. "Because of you Dylan is in that stupid asylum!"

"Well yeah, I know. I was under the impression that I did him a favor. You rather see him in jail?"

"That's not what I meant." I growled. "You told him about Holland while I asked you not to. You made him go to Tyler and that's were it all went wrong!"

"What are you talking about Jessica?" He came walking over to me. Something in his voice sounded not quite right.

"Tyler pushed Dylan to beat him up and then the police came and --" As I spoke the words I realised something. The police came.

"Have you been talking to him? Dylan? Did you see him?" Alex started rambling. "That guy is not good for you Jess." I looked up at him, a painful realisation stuck in my head.

"The police came." I breathed out. "How did they know what was going on?" Something in his eyes shifted. His muscles tensed and he took a step away from me.

"One of the neighbours must have called them." His voice was trembling. He was lying to me. I started shaking my head.

"You see Alex, that's not possible. There are no apartments at the front of Tyler's building and no one was outside." As I said the words the truth revealed itself. "He was set up." I said it so softly I almost couldn't hear myself. Finally the puzzle pieces were falling into place. I looked up at Alex with pain in my eyes. I realised he was responsible for this. "You knew he would go to Tyler. You called the cops."

"Jessica, I--"

"Don't." I growled. "I don't want to hear it."

"I was protecting you Jess!" He shouted as I turned my back on him.

"Protecting me? You are the reason the only person I ever loved is locked away in a fucking asylum!" I started overthinking the whole thing. The call. Tyler telling me to come to his apartment at four. It couldn't have been a coincidence. "Oh God..." I breathed out, folding my hand over my mouth. I felt nauseous, it almost made me want to puke. "You made him go insane and you made damn sure I was there to watch it."

"Jess please." He begged. "Let me explain. You needed to see what kind of monster he was. He would've hurt you sooner or later. We were protecting you."

"You sent an innocent man to the nuthouse!" I screamed.

"He's not innocent. He beat Tyler up."

"Because Tyler made him! I... I can't even look at you. How can you justify what you've done? You knew I loved him. You out of all people knew how hard he was trying to be a better person! He sat at your office every fucking week, pushing himself to his limits. He trusted you. I trusted you but you sent him straight into the arms of the real monster here. Tyler is no friend. Not to me, not to Dylan. He is an arrogant, jealous prick that provoked his best friend into violence just so he could make him disappear."

"How can you keep defending the man that hurt you! He beat you until you were all bruised up!" Alex shouted at me. At this point we were in such a heated fight I was sure the neighbours could hear us. Frankly, I didn't give a fuck.

"What? He never laid a finger on me! Why would you think that? Did Tyler tell you that Dylan beat me? That's not true Alex!" He looked at the ground. All of the sudden my heart started racing in my chest. My eyes widened and my jaw dropped to the ground. "It wasn't Tyler who told you that, right?" Alex shook his head. "Oh fuck." I turned around and ran out of the door.
