"Sent them out." I growled. I was standing in front of the counter, my eyes crazy with anger. He looked at me with confusion in his eyes. "You heard me Mike." I spat his name. "Sent them out. Close the bar. Now." My brother looked over my shoulder to the customers sitting in his bar. There weren't many.
"I can't do that Jessica, you know that." I took a deep breath, closed my eyes for a second and then turned around so that I was facing the people at the tables.
"Listen up everybody: We are closing! Finish your drinks and get the fuck out of here." They all looked at me like I'd gone insane and well, maybe I had. "Get out!" I screamed and they hurried to grab there stuff and were out of the door in seconds. "See, that wasn't that hard."
"Jessica what are you doing?!" My brother shouted at me. "Are you insane?!"
"Maybe. What are you gonna do brother? Sent me to the asylum as well?" He looked at me, biting down his lip. He didn't say anything and with that confirmed my thoughts. "I'll tell you what I know Mike." I said. "You figured out some twisted plan to get Dylan out of the picture. Why? I don't know. But you made sure Dylan would end up in a fight with Tyler and Alex called the police on him. Tyler, in turn, made sure I was there to witness it all. Dylan was sent to prison and Alex put him in the asylum. Stop me if I'm wrong." He remained silent, staring at me from behind the bar with his arms crossed over his chest. "I knew this couldn't have been Alex' plan. He's far too kind for that. He would never betray me like that unless he thought he was doing the right thing. Unless he thought he was protecting me. So you told him Dylan beat me and he bought it. Now, my dear brother, I would like you to tell me why you found it necessary to ruin mine and Dylan's life in such a horrible way." Mike took a deep breath and walked towards me from behind the bar.
"You wouldn't understand." He said.
"Enlighten me then."
"I hate him. Dylan O'Fucking Brien. I work in a bar, Jess. I hear things. I hear how he threats people, girls especially. And that fucking guy, a violent rapist was going after my sister. And you were too fucking stupid to see what he was doing to you. I tried to stop it before it had even started. I saw you talking to Tyler that day. I followed him when he went home. I told him who I was and that I was afraid Dylan would hurt you. He agreed to fake a fight and to tell you it was Dylan who did it." I gasped.
"You were the one who beat Tyler up?"
"I had hoped you would see what kind of monster he was but you just kept trying to save him. Then that incident with the chair happened. I knew you were lying to me when you told me you had thrown it against the wall. I just figured you were too scared to tell me that Dylan had paid you a visit. I tried to ignore it. I hoped it would all go over by itself. But no, you had to start dating him. And then I saw those bruises..."
"So you took matters into your own hands."
"I was doing it for you Jess." I groaned and threw my hands in the air.
"For fuck sake! When are you idiots gonna stop trying to help me?! Can't you see it Mike? Whilst you were so desperately trying to get me away from the bad guy you became one. You don't know him. You don't know the pain he has been through or what he lost! He has tried so hard to become a better man! He tried because he loves me and now that love is punishing him!" I was screaming so hard that my throat started to feel sore. I couldn't understand how he could've done all of this. He was behind it from the start. My own damn brother was the very reason for all the pain I felt. All the pain Dylan felt. "Not that it is any of your business but he has been through a fucking lot. He lost his girlfriend and his child in an accident and it took weeks for the murderer to go to jail. He was kicked out of his house and wasn't welcome with his best friend. And the whole rapist-thing? That's just a fucking rumour! He lost the love of his life. His girlfriend was everything to him, he would never hurt a woman that way."
"Jess I had no idea --"
"No. You hadn't. And you didn't have the fucking right to prejudice and sentence him. You should've come to me first!" My screams turned wet, with tears rolling down my cheeks as I chocked on my own breath. "You are going to make this right. All three of you. Because he doesn't deserve any of the shit that happened to him." Mike reached out his hand, trying to touch me but I backed away. "No!" I shouted. "Until I have him back, you and I are not speaking anymore." I turned my back to him and walked away.
Two down. One to go.
